Given afternoon tea vouchers as a belated Christmas present, we were all delighted with a very warm welcome, very attentive Staff and an excellent afternoon tea. This is real value for money and a hidden gem in the west end.

I booked this as a last minute thing. I could not have been happier, the location in Mayfair is very convenient, the room I had on the top floor was very nicely furnished better than some 5 stars in the same area, a bit on the small side but more than adequate. For the price I think it is more than reasonable and am eaven hesitant to write this review since I consider it to be a hidden gem.

Stayed here on saturday night and had the top floor, Room 9 which was fine.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Good size bathroom but there is no "Wow" factor compared to Hazlitts which is similar in decor but goes a bit further in terms of the standard of the rooms.
Tiny Television and small portions of Molten Brown Toiletries to use. Bathtub fine but hardly any pressure in the shower really. For what you pay you can find better rooms in London wish I had spent the extra £50 and stayed at the Atheneum really.

What was surreal was the atmosphere in the Bar downstairs when we checked in.
The reception area is in the bar and we had to deal with a rather loud guy at the Bar who welcomed us but was not a member of staff I quickly realised that he was someone who would just sit at the bar of the whole weekend and used the hotel like a Pub really. He seemed to know some of the members of staff who were also sitting at the Bar drinking with him, We checked in around 3pm had afternoon tea which was good and then left the hotel to go to the cinema.

When we came back the same guy was standing outside the hotel with the Barman and he had obviously had decided that this would be a fun boozy session for him. I don't begrudge his attitude but we felt that we could not enjoy the hotel bar because of the raucous atmosphere so we took a couple of drinks up to our room. The funny thing is that when we checked out at 11am he was still at the bar on his second pint! The barman from last night seemed rather jolly as well and it just did not look professional at the end of the day in terms of the impression that you should give to your customers.
The staff were friendly but there was a Fawlty Towers atmosphere which I would not expect to find with the postcode. Its a lovely historical building and with it comes a sense of wanting the hotel to be traditional and discerning and quiet and discreet in its atmosphere. You can find this at Hazlitts for sure in Soho but not at the Fox club which is a shame really.

Room Tip: Choose Room 9 but not the basement

Stayed at this hotel in the 1st week of January '14. For the price, we were expected the hotel to be quite luxurious but on arrival quickly discovered it was not. We stayed in the 1st floor bedroom facing on to the street. This room is very dim and gloomy. You are faced with the option of either having the curtains open and having people peering in from the office block directly opposite or pulling the curtains and using the lamps provided which are completely inadequate (oddly, there is no top light). The room contained a love kit which was prominently displayed on the desk. I won't go into the contents here but it's more something I would expect in a Soho back street. We aren't easily offended but the room could easily have been booked by an older couple or a family who would be. Our main gripe was that the extractor fan in the en-suite is on constantly. We called reception to inform them of this and their suggestion was for one of us to climb up on the sink to place a bag over it...even though the ceiling is 4m high!! Not being happy with this we called back and finally a manager arrived, saw the problem and moved us. This was at about midnight. The next day we told the receptionist that we had a terrible nights sleep and were informed "oh yeah we know about the problem in there it's been like that for weeks and other people have complained". This begs the question why on earth would you give this room, not tell us there's a problem and wait for us to complain before moving us? why not just give us the free room initially?? This hotel really does no seem to care about it's guests. To be fair, the receptionist did offer an apology and say that we could stay for free considering the problems that we had experienced. The next thing we knew is the owner, an awful lady...aggressive and completely lacking any empathy for guests left us a voicemail a week or so later saying that she would be charging us the whole room rate. Disguising. We are not complainers and felt that it was only fair that we were not charged, I mean our weekend was ruined as on the Sunday we were meant to be exploring London as a birthday treat but felt so exhausted we ended up going home. DO NOT STAY HERE. There are plenty of other hotels to choose from. Try travelodge, it's cheaper, better rooms and they have a no quibble money back guarantee if you don't sleep

Room Tip: Avoid the room on the first floor to the front of the hotel, the suite is hugely overpriced. it'...

I stayed at the Fox Club for three nights as my apartment was being painted . i was greeted with a lovely smile when I checked in with my wife . The Fox Club is more like a boutique hotel . It's not big at all wich we liked . The staff rememberd our names and couldn't be more helpfull . I stayed in room 4 . The bed was massive with lovely egyptian sheets and we could easily have a third person sleeping on the sofa that leads to the bathroom if we needed . Breakfast wasn't included in the price . I never seen eggs so brightly orange like that . I was told they import the eggs from a small town in Italy . If you want the fuss and the impersonality of a big hotel it might not suit you . The bar stays open quite late for guests and the bartender was again chatty and friendly . It's also a private members club . There were a few members the night we had a drink and they were also very friendly .
As we also live in London chances are we will not stay again ( until we next do some work at our flat ) . But if we lived outside London we would definately stay there again .

Room Tip: Room 4 is big and quiet

This was a useful, central location that enabled us to see in the New Year without the hassle of Underground service, despite the room being at the top (70 steps) of the building. We accepted the reasons for no lift (listed building) and were welcomed back both evenings we returned to the hotel by Carl who poured a good night-cap.
Room was comfortable and provided adequate opportunity to rest between a busy schedule of activities.
The staff were all helpful and friendly and provided useful information.

Room Tip: if you can't manage stairs, then insist on a lower floor room

Stayed for one night for a birthday night out in Mayfair, as it was cheaper than nearby hotels like Hilton and Intercontinental. It's a members' club rather than a hotel so no reception as such and there was no hot breakfast on offer as the chef was on his holidays. But they upgraded us to a suite which was nicely decorated and roomy, albeit a little oddly-shaped (this is because it's an old building I presume!) . Bathroom was nice although a few quirks like the shower being too stiff to turn on (my fiancé had to do it and even he struggled) and the loo roll holder being so close to the loo that you couldn't raise or lower the seat without moving the loo roll! Bed was big and soft. Staff were very friendly and it's manned 24/7 so no worries about coming in late given that you have to give back your key when you head out. I don't feel it's fair to comment on value for money as the room we originally booked was probably on the small side but we didn't see it. I'd be happy to stay again if I can't find a deal at one of the nearby hotels which are outrageously expensive!
