Stayed at the Grange City as part of Show and Stay deal - First Tip - Got a taxi from Paddington to hotel and it cost an eye watering £30.00 !! Found out ( on the way home ) the tube from Paddington runs directly to Tower Hill station , take a sharp right of the tube station and the hotel is a 2 min walk -

Nice Hotel , couldn't Check in until 3 !!! Left bags and explored , Back to hotel to be told we had a upgrade , Room ok , looked out onto offices and could just see the top of tower bridge - nice and clean , lovely nights sleep , really couldn't complain until Breakfast !! Rubbish Rubbish Rubbish , soggy bacon , cheap sausages , greasy eggs , cheap beans , cold tea , don't bother , I had the things that couldn't be spoilt , cereals , yogurt , toast ,

On the whole nice hotel , great location , just avoid the breakfast !!!

Anyone looking to book a five star hotel in London and thinking they have got a bargain here had better think twice.
We had no such expectations, having read previous reviews and realizing the price we paid through a broker was too cheap by far. However we know and like the area and have stayed often at a couple of competitor hotels in the immediate vicinity.
Upgraded at check-in to an executive room on the fifth floor [a first for us] The room was spacious with an extra large king bed. Bathroom/toilet was tiny. Bearable for one night but no longer. Room overlooked a railway track and platform. If we had opened the window I swear we could have had a conversation with the travellers. The windows are double glazed though and we didn't hear people or trains. We slept soundly on a very comfortable firm bed. A large office block behind the railway affords workers a good view of some rooms. Keep the blackout blinds a third of the way down during daylight hours.
By far the worst aspect of our stay was the breakfast. Poorly organized. Dreadful seating plan and the poorest display of items I've ever seen in any 4* plus hotel in London. Added to which the low prices on offer to stay here, at a 'five star', inevitably attract a particular type of clientele whose idea of manners, queuing and etiquette belong on an all you can eat 3* Spanish holiday resort. One barefooted, tracksuited heavily pregnant yob was a particular irritant and a serial offender.Staff did nothing to educate her.We took a couple of sips of coffee and left.
This was probably a decent hotel in its day. All brass, wood and marble. I'm sure they have one or two wonderful rooms available if you are willing to pay.Should you decide to try it for yourself, do not on any account pay extra for breakfast. There's a Raymond Blanc Brasserie two minutes away[ excellent] and a restaurant across the road from the hotel [haven't tried]

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor NOT facing the railway and office block at the back.

Dear James R,

Many thanks for taking the time to review your recent visit. We are sorry to hear that you were not entirely satisfied during your stay. Your comments have been noted for the future.
I am pleased to hear that the team were able to provide you with a complimentary upgrade upon arrival. Whilst it is not always possible to allocate rooms with exceptional views within a City location, we do pride ourselves on making sure that the hotel's in-room and public area facilities are of a high quality and standard.

During the weekend our breakfast buffet has a wide selection of continental breakfast items from cold meat platters, to cheeses, cereals, fruit, juices, pastries and the like with a large selection of hot items cooked to order. We do find that our weekend guests prefer to enjoy a leisurely breakfast and many choose a more informal breakfast area in which to relax. I have passed your comments on to the team so they may make improvements in the service where necessary.

Thank you again for your comments and we hope to see you back with us again soon.

Kind regards,

PatrickM

Upon arrival, the hotel staff were very professional and helpful. Unfortunately our room was not ready and we couldnt check in until after 3pm. We left our bags with reception and went asked for some coffee or brunch. We ate in the bar area and had trad. fish and chips which was chunky, skin on home made chips and full of flavour. The two lattes were a spoiler as arrived cold.

As we couldnt check in, we went on a walkabout around Fleet st, Bank st, etc all within easy access of the location. Great view of the Tower of London and a very short dash took us to the Tower hill tube station.

Once we got our room, it was of average standard, and size, plenty of bedding and cushions etc, the bathroom was relatively small but well equipped and clean. One dressing gown and one pair of slippers were provided which i thought weird as there was two of us.

Our room had no view apart from the block of accom opposite us, but it was quiet and we were able to have a good nights sleep.

On the second day we used the spa facility, the swimming pool was far too cold to be a spa pool and we simply didnt use it, this was a major dispointment as we had specifically booked a hotel with a spa to enjoy. Prehaps due to this dated spa decor and the pool temp, very few guests were at the spa during the times we were. we did however use the steam room and the jacquzzi for 45 mins which were good.

Overall the staff were very pleasant and friendly, each greeting us from the cleaners, to the receptionist staff. Complimentary Independent newspapers were outside every room on Monday morn.
Great location for Whitechapel and the Tower of London and well enough priced for London

Dear Analace13,

Many thanks for your comprehensive review. We hope you enjoyed the local area, its architecture and myriad attractions. The view of the Tower of London is spectacular and never fails to impress.

I am sorry we were not able to accommodate your early arrival on this occasion. Whilst we do our best to do so, this is not always possible; however we will always be delighted to store luggage on your behalf so you have time to explore our City, or utilise our hotel facilities including but not only our Health Clubs and Spas.

We apologise that only one bathrobe and slippers were available in your room. The pool's temperature is set to the recommended level for a leisure pool which allows guests the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing swim or laps.

Thank you also for mentioning the hotel's staff. We have shared your comments with them which is a great motivator and assists us in providing a memorable stay for all our guests both now and in the future.

We look forward to seeing you back at the Grange City Hotel on your next visit to London.

Kind regards,

PatrickM

It was so lovely to have hotel staff make eye contact while helping with queries. Every member of staff acknowledged when they walked past you. Lovely hotel with lovely rooms. The food was good with a great selection whilst at a 2 day function. Beds were super comfy and I had a great nights sleep.

I love the location for work as it is a short walk to the office and some of the tourist sites. Also right by a main line for the tube (London Underground). The rooms are small but typical for London/EU, was given an upgrade but I can only assume that meant I got a queen bed.

They do have an excellent gym, especially compared to most in the UK/EU. Also has same day laundry and dry cleaning which is also really nice.

Staff seems really nice too.

The food is horrible, eat ANYWHERE else. I mean really bad.
