We stayed at the Intercontinental Westminster just for one night while we were in London to go to the theatre. Not normally being able to justify spending the standard rate at a hotel like this, we secured a discounted rate using Secret Escapes.

The hotel is excellently located, literally just steps from St James' Park tube station and the valets outside the hotel were kept busy by the fancy black cars that kept pulling up, all with diplomatic plates!

The check-in process was swift and we were shown to the lift by the freindly receptionist who subsequently called the room to check we were in ok and that we were happy, as well as to confirm that the water in the mini bar was complimentary.

The room, one of their Classic rooms, was a reasonable size and very well equipped with a King size bed, fancy TV contained within a glass panel at the end of the bed and the bathroom had a bath, seperate rainfall shower and toilet behind it's own door. The decor was modern, sheets and towels were of good quality and everything was spotlessly clean. The only downside was lack of a view from the window but this is quite common in London hotels.

We did not eat in the hotel at all as we were heading out for a pre-theatre dinner in South Kensington (easily reached just a few tube stops from the hotel) and then made breakfast arrangements by Aldwych (again a short tube ride away) as the room rate was room only.

Overall we had a nice stay here but I do think that if I had paid the £300+ rate that the hotel charges usually, I would have been disappointed as without breakfast included, the room does not have £300+ worth of wow factor although the location is very good.

I would stay here again, but only if I could secure another promotional rate.

Room Tip: Classic rooms, although the most basic room choice, does not mean you will be disappointed.

A top-notch, business-oriented hotel, very professional and friendly staff, near everything, quiet, and across the street from a major tube station, alongside beautiful St. James Park. I would stay here again.

situated just off Victoria street, and minutes away from many attractions the hotel is in a quiet road, opposite the tube station. The hotel is new with lovely rooms and spectacular bathrooms, which are much larger than most in London. All the amenities are there, and a fantastic coffee machine in each room. The staff are friendly and attentive, and seem very happy working there. The hotel is not big, quiet and friendly and well worth the visit if your staying in london. The beds are very comfortable, but the air con, takes a bit of getting use too.

We stayed in the hotel for about a week late May. Start with positive comments. The hotel is new - about half a year old. Very well situated - Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly, Trafalgar all within walking distance. Tube station is next door. Rooms are very clean, most of the staff very attentive. Restaurants serve very good food and drinks.
Negative comments. The hotel of such a level should have more native English speakers. Concierge service is amongst the worst I've ever seen. They always recommend the same Indian restaurant even though you tell them that you don't want any Indian cuisine. Twice they screwed up with the taxi ordering, so we had to wait for over 25 minutes at 6 am!
Although the hotel is new, the doors to bathroom were not working. People who stayed there know that these doors are VERY heavy. If they don't work, average woman cannot move them an inch. I just wonder how a cleaner could have cleaned the bathroom with the door not opening?.. The reception provided us with another room (after we returned from a walk 3 hours later). However nobody helped with the luggage.
The rooms are small, the price is not. I know this is London. But charging some GBP600+ for a superior room is a bit too much.

My husband and I were celebrating our May birthdays in Europe (London-Barcelona-Lisbon-London) and our 4-night stay at the InterContinental Westminster was the perfect way to start us off on our 2-week celebration.

Here are the highlights that make this hotel deserving of its 5-star status and why there is no question we will be back...

ROOM
* quiet and spacious room (we were upgraded to an executive superior room from a superior)
* heavenly bed, pillows and linens (if London wasn't a-callin', we would've just stayed in to veg the entire time!)
* huge bathroom with a walk-in shower that had a hand or rain shower option, separate tub, marble vanity with lots of surface area for make-up, etc.
* lux Molton Brown toiletries
* Nespresso machine with complimentary capsules, fresh milk in fridge
* complimentary still/sparkling water in mini-bar
* turndown service (so nice to come back to the room after a full day of sightseeing and shopping)

LOCATION
* St. James' Park tube station right across the hotel (tip: get an Oyster card, the tube is very convenient and easy to navigate)
* Starbucks across the street, 5-minute walk to Westminster Abbey, 7-minute walk to Parliament, 13-minute walk to the London Eye

SPECIAL EXTRAS
* birthday treats in our room upon arrival (home-made marshmallows, chocolate, etc.)
* bottle of red wine set up in our room after turndown service which was such a nice gesture
* wonderful hotel interior scent, it was just so calming to walk into the hotel and breathe in the smell of fresh flowers all the time

PEOPLE
* professional yet friendly, not pretentious nor stuffy
* special mention to the doormen who always had a smile on their faces and consistently greeted guests

DINING
* Blue Boar deserves its own review so I'll keep this short. Hotel restaurants are sometimes a write-off, its existence and purpose almost always dependent on and/or dictated by the hotel. Blue Boar, however, can and does stand on its own merits. Get the seabass, you won't regret it!

The InterContinental Westminster absolutely lives up to its 5-star rating and high standards, we cannot wait to go back to London and stay there once again!
