“Great asset to London”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014 via mobile

My wife and I stayed here recently for a long weekend booking at an excellent rate through Lastminute.com.

We have stayed at numerous hotels in London and therefore have a fair idea of what to expect and we were not disappointed by the Intercontinental London Westminster.

Service was excellent throughout - one of the best check-ins we have ever had, room service, house keeping and check out all faultless.

Location is excellent if like us your visiting as a tourist - the hotel is directly opposite St James Park underground station and a few minutes walks gets you to many of the famous sites.

We were complimentary upgraded on check-in and enjoyed a very comfortable room with all the facilities you would expect in this category. Rooms are pretty generous for London. I particularly liked how the air conditioning in the room was so quiet yet effective in operation. In addition the room had nice touches such as night mode for lighting so rather than complete darkness, under sink lights in the bathroom can be turned on.

All things considered we would definitely happily return in the future.

Stayed here for 1 night only at the end of our trip to London. By the end of our trip we had enough of being in hotels- then we checked in here.

The location of this hotel could not be better. It is directly across the road from St James Park
station- 2 minutes walk to Westminster Abbey and Big Ben, 5 minutes walk to Buckingham Palace, and 10 minutes walk to Mayfair/Piccadilly.
This hotel is about a year old, so it even still smells new.

From the reception/lobby the hotel doesn't look very grand, but this hotel prides itself on service.
Check in took less than 2 minutes. We were upgraded to a junior suite which overlooked St James Park (well down an alley)
We were escorted to the room and shown all the bells and whistles. The rooms here are extremely large for London standards. Bathrooms are the largest I have seen in London, outside of a suite. Separate tubs and showers- showers have a rainfall shower head.

I find that Intercontinental hotels are usually consistently good with their beds and this hotel didn't disappoint, it was the most comfortable be I have slept on in the capital- perhaps because they are new.

Service here was spectacular. Nothing is too hard for the staff at this hotel.

The one reason stopping me from giving this hotel a rating of 5 is the recreational facilities. This is a 5 star property and one of 2 of the Intercontinental flagships in London, and all they can provide is a small room with a couple of walkers. I think this is poor. I would expect for the price, for the reputation of Intercontinental, to have an indoor pool, or at least a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi.

Had this hotel made an effort to give guests these health club features then I would very easily be able to say that I think this is the best hotel in London- given the location, service and rooms.

If facilities are not an issue, and location is a must at a reasonable rate, then this hotel is a must.

Dear Gary,

Many thanks for your detailed review and for your kind words. We always enjoy welcoming and hearing constructive feedback from our regular guest. Whilst I am pleased of the wonderful words you gave about many aspects of the hotel, I am also disappointed to know that our Gym and lack of recreational facilities have tainted your wonderful view about the hotel. On your next visit, please contact me directly and I will arrange something similar for you.

Gary, we do hope it won’t be long before you have the opportunity to visit again soon in the not too distant future.

Best regards,

Awesome service! Location is within walking distance to all the touristy attractions: Big Ben Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Queens Guard, 10 Downing Street, London Eye. From the time the door was opened until we checked out I "felt like a queen." Service was right on, I have never been shown to my hotel room by the front desk clerk but here we didn't have to search the hallways. The clerk brought us right to our room, showed us the amenities, and assured us that we were welcome. After traveling from Venice we were exhausted. The Club amenities were excellent, food was great, not to mention the wine. The host was always polite and welcome. Although the Club servers were new to the hotel they were the best. The little extra added touches at this hotel were welcome surprises. I have never had a linen throw placed at the side of my bed with slippers. Excellent! We did have to change our room due to the noise outside. The Club floor is the first floor and our room was on the outside of the hotel wall of the hotel, the tour buses stopped here. The staff was right there to move us and pack up our belongings. Husband had no complaints, another plus. This was our first time in London, will be back.

Room Tip: Make sure your room is not on an outside wall, first floor. Hop on Hop off Bus stops at the street...

I came here for a night's stay in February as a treat, staying in London for Chinese New Year. It was gorgeous! I'm not used to being so looked after by staff but it was a lovely treat. We had our bags taken as we checked in, and we had someone to show us the features of the room and ask if we had any special requests or if we would like anywhere booked for dinner.
The room itself was lovely, had a huge TV within the wall and there were all sorts of modern quirks to the room, including being able to hear the TV in the bathroom- which in itself was lovely. The toiletries from the bathroom were excellent, the shampoo being really good, even for my long thick hair- which is rare (still trying to find somewhere that sells it in the UK....)
A modern design and in a fantastic location, this hotel is great if you are out to impress. Can't comment on the price as it was treat for me!

We stayed one night on a Lastminute mystery hotel deal, so got a great rate. We had a classic room with an accessible bathroom for wheelchair users, so no bath, but an open plan wet room. Everything was lovely, including our check-in when the doorman parked our car for us (it was a Friday so free on-street parking).

The room was spacious and stylish - had trouble finding the switch to close the curtains, but eventually found it with the bedside light switches. Only quibble was the espresso style coffee machine produced very small amounts of tepid coffee even on the setting for a large cup. But the bed (6 ft) and bedding were fabulous. Very quiet even though we were near the lifts on the 4th floor. Great night's sleep.

We had continental breakfast at £20 per head (not included in our room rate), which was very nice with a lot of choice and some good (hot!) coffee.

We took a cab to the West End (St Martin's Lane) which was about £10 each way. Had a couple of drinks in the bar before bed - very pricey of course, but great service.

Would wholeheartedly recommend.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. Contemporary luxury in a fine location right across from
the St. James Park tube station. -- The linens, large bathroom & décor were all fine features. --
The staff truly goes out of their way for personal service, such as walking one to the business
center or lifts. Outstanding. -- Hint: I booked a "senior rate" directly with the hotel and did not
need to pay until departure. -- I would gladly return.

Room Tip: Interior room was perfectly quiet --- although the area itself has minimal traffic.
