“Excellent Location for London sights”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

First time visit to London. After extensive research, we picked the Intercontinental based on it's location to major sights, access to the St. James tube station across the street, and, the fact it is a newer hotel.

We stayed five days. The hotel isn't quaint, instead the decor was streamlined, tasteful and modern. Our standard room with a king bed was not large by American standards, but large enough by European. Loved the bathroom with a separate outside vanity area, and, the shower with good water pressure. There was a complimentary Nespresso machine with caffeinated and decaf coffee, a mini-fridge with complimentary real milk, umbrellas in the closet, along with slippers. The sheets were crisp and bed comfortable. The hotel in general and the room specifically was quiet, especially for being in the heart of the city. There wasn't much of a view, but, we weren't in our room much.

We were there as tourists and enjoyed walking everywhere, as well as, using the excellent public transportation system. We were only minutes away from Big Ben, Parliament, the Winston Churchill War Rooms, so we were able to make the best use of our time.

While we did not utilize the concierge, check in was efficient, if not a little impersonal. We ate only one meal there, lunch, in the small restaurant right off the lobby, and, it was good. There were several nearby breakfast places, around the corner for modestly priced quick breakfasts. The rest of the time we explored different restaurants around the city.

Hotel prices are high in London, and, this was no exception. We checked Expedia, but ended up booking directly through the hotel for the best rate, using AAA for a slight discount.

Depending on our itinerary for a next visit to London, I would explore other hotel options in a completely different area of the city. That said, I would still recommend this hotel for first time visitors wishing to see the major sights of London or those requiring this location.

Room Tip: any room is fine.

I Stayed here with my daughter from Friday to Sunday in July.it s a very nice hotel close to metro , walking distance to Big ben, London Eye, Parliament..
We had 2 separate bed, a very big bathroom separate bad/shower and WC. walk in Douche.
There is a nespresso machine in the room with 6 pads. Thee is also for free .I heard that the water is also free but couldn't find it ..They made the bed ready for sleeping at 7 pm .
Free internet everywhere and you can do your check in and print it out there.
Personal is very friendly and helpful.
There is a Starbuck coffee next to the Hotel also " Pret a manger" for the breakfast.
It just 2 stations from Oxford Circus but you have to change at the next station Victoria. I took the taxi ordered by the hotel to London City and I paid 40 pounds. I took a taxito come to the hotel from London Euston and I paid 11 pounds.
From the hotel to Oxford Street is 15 pounds, cheaper than the metro if you are 3 or more. Metro is 5 pounds each 1 way if you don't have a prepaid card, 2,50 pounds if you use the card.Took the prepaid card for the metro,

We booked the intercontinental last minute and after reading the reviews we looked forward to arriving. We weren't disappointed - the welcome we received was warm and helpful - having the bags carried from the taxi and being introduced to the check in desk. Art is evident all through the hotel with some very lovely pieces.....the scarfe political pieces in the bar were a particular favourite.
The room was wonderful with a fabulous bathroom - we had a superior room so it was spacious and well appointed - lovely touches such as a nice coffee machine and an array of glasses mean you could stay comfortably for a few days. The hotel is wonderfully positioned close to so many sights. We returned late to the hotel and were very heartened to be able to join a busy bar still serving a late night menu at close to midnight and a throng of staff....the bar area is just perfect too with comfy nooks and hideaways....! All quiet at night and really good air conditioning that made our room almost too cold.
Breakfast was also wonderful with excellent attentive service and starched white table cloths and silver milk jugs.....
Not sure I would pay top price for here as the hotel lacks the views or wow of some other 5 star hotels - park lane Hilton for example and also lacks a gorgeous spa pool which others have but for last minute bookings the discounted price makes it about the right price!
Enjoy if you travel there! We also used fantastic taxi APP called KABBEE which got us swiftly back from Camden to the hotel in super quick time - I was very impressed....and I had been very skeptical - taxis easy to come by outside hotel seemingly all parts of the day...

Room Tip: We stayed at the back in a superior room but the hotel was on a very quiet street for the middle of...

We had 3 days in London at this beautiful hotel. We actually got a suprisingly good deal on Priceline and upgraded our room (for a small fee) to an Executive King on check in. The room was beautiful, with an amazingly comfy bed and a lovely bathroom full of my favorite, Molton Brown products. There is also a coffee machine with fresh milk a selection of teas. The location was great, we walked up the south bank, to the west end all very easily, but if you want to get the tube, St. James Park was just opposite. We walked from Victoria Station to the hotel and it took realistically 15 mins, but if you have a lot of luggage I wouldn't it's about £10 in a cab. The hotel bar was also good, with American style food and nice wines. Service was great and even a delivery to hotel we had went straight to our room. Would recommend and stay here again.

Room Tip: Pay the small fee to upgrade to an Exec King.

Just across the street from the St. Jame's Park Tube station, the Intercontinental is ideally located in Westminster. We could walk to the Place, the Abbey, Big Ben, and so many more points of interest. The Hotel staff deliver an exception level of service and the rooms are modern and comfortable. Concierge service is superlative! However specific your interest they will find you options, point out their suggestions, and then leave you to make the choices. They were never overbearing, just appropriate. I have recommended this hotel it to my son and his family for their upcoming stay in London.
