This long-established chippie is at one end of the Berwick Street market, a historic open-air fruit & vegetable market. There are now a few non fruit & veg stalls including a wet fish stall right outside the Dining Plaice. Surprise, surprise, the proprietors of both seem to know each other!
Most people use the take away option, with a cod and chips currently costing £6.40. You can also eat in as there are a dozen or so tables. Eating in is a little more expensive but I think the portions are a little larger.
I've not had a bad meal here in the last 5+ years whether eating in or out. The quality of the fish is always at least very good and sometimes stunning. The chips are reliable. Mushy peas are OK and I've not tried anything else - what would be the point? Unlike the many eateries in central London that rely on the tourist trade the Dining Plaice relies on repeat business from locals and local workers. Service if fast and professional but there are no niceties. It needs to be reliably good to get people to come back and it is. Best chippie around!
