I chose to stay at Anwar House for two nights as I was doing a course nearby, and it was one of the cheaper places in a decent area. Indeed, it served its purpose simply as a room to sleep in, and the location was definitely a plus point.
However, even just a bit of simple sprucing up could make this place a lot better. There were dubious stains on the wall, the bedroom was tiny (though it had its own sink, which, considering the bathroom was shared, was a bonus) and the carpet was dirty and stained. The sheets were clean and the bed was relatively comfortable, but the furniture was really falling apart, e.g. no handles on the wardrobe and a tap that was nigh on impossible to turn.
The owners were quite friendly, but an advanced warning that there would be an additional charge for paying by credit OR debit (yes, even debit!) would have been appreciated, as I would've brought cash with me if I'd known. Similarly, I had to be let in by another guest in the first place as the owners were out when I arrived- even though I arrived slap bang in the middle of the time I said I would.
Anwar House suited my needs reasonably well, especially in terms of location and price, but it's not somewhere I'd stay again.More
