I knew what to expect from reviews prior to booking the hotel, so the size of the room (small!) was not an unpleasant surprise! In fact, I was impressed by how well-used the space is. I had a single room on the 5th floor, with a window looking out to Palace Theatre. It was quiet, had loads of light, and I actually thought the room was extremely cosy. It was also well equipped with coffee & tea making facilities, a proper hair dryer and flat screen TV with plenty of channels. The bed was super comfy, and everything was well-maintained and clean.
I love, love, love the fact that the hotel is only a couple of minutes walk from Leicester Square tube station, and a few minutes walk to Covent Garden and Oxford Street. Location-wise, it really couldn't get any better. The hotel also offered free wine and cheese to guests every evening, which I thought was a nice touch.
Z Hotel was perfect for a solo traveller, but I imagine it may get a bit much sharing such a confined space with someone.

We stayed here for 3 nights in the larger Queen room. We were early but check-in was smooth and friendly. The location of the hotel, just off Shaftesbury Avenue and 2 minutes walk to Leicester Square tube station, could not be better for a theatre break and there are lots of pubs and eateries nearby.

As others have said, the rooms are small and the lack of bathroom privacy may an issue for some (not for us married over 30 years), our suitcase fitted under the bed so our floorspace was maximised, the only thing really lacking was worktop space - a shelf or two wouldn't go amiss. Soho at night is lively, so don't expect country-house quiet, especially if England are playing Italy in the World Cup - the Italian restaurant nearby was certainly lively that night.

We had booked room only but had the breakfast everyday as it was only £8.95pp and served a cold continental buffet and bacon rolls - nice food, good value. We availed ourselves one night of the free cheese and wine and very nice it was too - a decent selection of wine and some really nice cheeses and a good variety too.

The big TV with the full Sky package is a very nice touch given that the bed was comfy to sit on. Service by the staff was excellent and all the staff were friendly (not common in London) and, by and large, really quite young.

There's no bar, no room service, no laundry, no useless sewing kit, no fancy toiletries etc., all of which is reflected in the price - what we saved staying here over a hotel in Mayfair, where we usually stay, paid for all our meals out AND the 3 shows we went to see.

We'll be back.

Fantastic location. The staff were first class. Rooms are tiny but you know that when you book. Very clean room with large T.V. on the wall. Great toiletries. Hairdryer, tea and coffee including peppermint tea. Plenty of choice at Breakfast. Didn't wake until 8.30am!! Couldn't fault it. Will be booking this hotel next time we visit London.

We booked this hotel based on the location & price. We knew the rooms would be on the smaller size, but never would we have imagined this size. Think smallest room you have seen on a cruise ship. Tiny. Tiny. Tiny. Our luggage would not even fit in the room. The staff had no solution for us. We ended up going to another hotel.

The price/location of this hotel would be enough, but the rooms are very nice and the staff was excellent. There are lots of ways to stay in London, and this is one of my favorite. The one warning I would share is that this is a very central location so if that's what you want you'll be thrilled, otherwise you might need earplugs depending on which room you have/how light a sleeper you are.

I can't wait to come back!

Our second stay at this hotel and it won't be our last. Yes, the rooms are very small but lovely and clean. The bed is comfy and there is a big tv with Sky channels. The staff are friendly and helpful and the free cheese and wine is a lovely addition. But would only stay for 2 nights at the most as there are no wardrobes or storage space. Would definitely recommend it for the location, 2 minutes from Leicester Square tube station.

We stayed at Hotel Z for four nights in May 2013 and were completely satisfied with the stay. The rooms are, which the hotel makes no secret of, small. But otherwise this would be a much more expensive hotel. And the rooms are big enough, you’re in London, if you’re planning on spending all your time at the hotel, why bother with going.

Our room was their smallest size, and didn’t have a window (which we didn’t miss at all btw). No noise from neighbors or from the street. The room was extremely clean, newly renovated, fresh shower and a comfy bed. The room was great and cozy!

The staff was nice, we could leave our luggage long before check-in time (our plan arrived early) and leave it after check-out as well. And the location was EXCELLENT. We will definitely stay here for our next visit to London.

(we didn’t try the breakfast or the restaurant at the hotel so I don’t know how that was, but there were no shortage of places to eat close by)
