Last week I had the great pleasure to eat from the wine bar menu and to also have a dinner feast at The Quality Chop House.
Food is modern british (nose to tail eating) and very wine friendly. Graze extensively across the clever bar menu and enjoy vegetables such as cabbage simply braised in butter, meat dishes like rabbit terrine or moreish cubes of tongue crumbed and deep fried or a warm lamb salad - food that is very good in its own right, designed to share and to go with and complement the brilliant wines on offer such as a young but approachable and reasonably priced Chateauneuf du Pape.
Choose wines by the glass or bottle from a wide ranging knowlegeable list. Put yourself in the hands of the very amiable, enthusiastic and knowledgeable owners/staff who will, with skill, recommend a wine or wines that will compliment the food you are eating.
At dinner it is a set menu in the dining room with the option of suggested matching wines for each course. We shared a trio of starters (heritage carrots, ox heart and crab rarebit), pollock and then a huge but delicious serving of venison before tumbling home to lemon tart. The wine pairings for dinner are highly recommended and showed great skill and understanding of food and wine and markedly increased the enjoyment of the already excellent food.
Ask also about any special bottles that may open and available to try by the glass including a delicious and well priced dessert wine from 1954!
If you like fresh modern british cooking and are interested in wine I thoroughly recommend spending a lunchtime or evening or both at The Quality Chop House!
Looking forward to returning when next in London.
