Went to the dog racing Saturday evening. Excellent overall, but spoiled a bit by the miserable faces and unhelpful attitude of the ladies behind the tote betting desk. What on earth is wrong with them? It costs absolutely nothing to be nice to people and has the spin off benefit of making your own life nicer as well! Come on ladies, give it a try - or let some younger girls have your jobs...

Came for 3rd round of the derby in the granstand restaurant. Good night overall and friendly tote and raffle staff who were helpful. Some food was very good particularly the mushroom crumble and seabass. However the burger had too much onion (almost a chutney) and the chicken needed a salsa. It was very busy but the waiting staff could have been at least smiley. It was also very humid and because it was an hour between our main and dessert, we didnt want to go outside. Drink selection was poor - no ale (i dont count worthingtons smooth - at least Crayford has courage) and limited wine selection. Its still worth it but these little things could have made it even better.

I recently had the chance to go and see banger (scrap car) racing at Wimbledon Dog track in South West London. As the name suggests its actually a dog racing stadium but on Sundays a banger racing is held at the stadium which is converted into a race track.

Tickets for adults cost £14 and £6 for children up to the age of 14, there are also family tickets available for 2 adults and 2 children for around £40.

The racing was actually very fun to watch as its not something that is usually found in inner London and for the price it was a great deal. There was a snack shop and food outlets in side the stadium selling hot dogs among other items, and the prices were reasonable.

There is a bus service as well as Haydons Road train station near the stadium, but I traveled by
Wimbledon minicabs which was more convenient than public transport and the fares were reasonable as well. There is plenty of car parking available at the stadium if you are driving yourself.

Overall it was a good night out and I highly recommend it.

upon entering the dreary car park, expectations are not high, but that should not put you off. this track does need an investment to bring it up date, but that does not detract from how pleasant and helpful all the staff are, especially the security girl in the restaurant who is a fantastic ambassador for the stadium, and the boy taking the bets also went out of his way to make your evening special.
i could not fault the meal at all, which included a top quality steak, and for just over £30 each including entry, my party came away having really enjoyed themselves without busting the bank.
and with such a good meal and fantastic atmosphere we will definatly be returning.

Visited for the first time in quite a while and had a disappointing evening. Only 1 side of the stadium is open and is a very tight grandstand, with not a lot of betting facilities and limited bar area. Viewing is ok, but there are no big screens, just scattered portable size monitors with hazy pictures. Venue was cold, lacked atmosphere and is very dated. In desperate need of modernisation or, dare I say, knocking down and redeveloping into a modern arena. What a shame that such a great stadium has been allowed to deteriorate to such a standard. Doubtful on a return for the foreseeable future.
