I've been using the County for years, but only when I'm paying for myself rather than on expenses. It's superb value for money if you consider that it's near Euston and a very short walk away from the same amenities you'd use if you were paying three times the price at the Mercure or Holiday Inn. And if you're really concerned to live to a budget, you can have a two course hot dinner for under a fiver. It's convenient for a first class real ale pub (The Queen's Larder) and a fine choice of French, Indian, Italian, Greek and Chinese restaurants. If you use what you save by staying at the County on quality eating and drinking, you have a good night out in a fine bit of London - and when you're satisfied and asleep you don't notice the decor! The County is very basic - it's a backpacker's and building-workers' flophouse, with small rooms, sparse furnishings, harsh lighting, cheap towels and no en-suite. It is also noisy, as you'd expect from thin walls and banging doors and minimal sound proofing. But all this said, it's good value for what you pay as long as you're aware of what you get. I'll carry on using it - but not when I'm travelling with my wife, who finds it just too basic.

Room Tip: Worth the little extra to have a double. Still not ensuite, but more space.

I booked this and then read the reviews and was dreading going. I was very suprised when i got there, the rooms were spotless, clean WHITE fresh beds, tea facilities in bedroom, shared bathrooms very clean, new bathroom.
I am 21 and stayed with another 21 year old friend. We enjoyed out stay, friendly staff, bar was cheap enough and the breakfust was GORGEOUS!! All you can eat :)
Coming to london again in May for 3 nights and definatley coming back to the County Hotel

Good price for the location, friendly staff, clean comfy rooms, great location, shared bathrooms & toilets are clean. BUT all doors are spring loaded fire doors that people slam shut all night long, and the walls are a bit thin, so it can be VERY noisy!

However, this isn't, and doesn't pretend to be a 5 star hotel! For what you pay it's ok. Some of the nasty reviews for this hotel are clearly by idiots who think they'll get the Ritz for £49 a night: get real! This place is clean, freindly, and ok for what you pay

The rooms were clean but a bit tatty. the toilets and bathrooms were shared, but these were clean and plentiful, although the toilets got a bit blocked in the night. i was pleasantly surprised with the breakfast buffet, there was loads of good hot food. if you're used to luxury, you should probably look elsewhere , but if you want a reasonable B+B for £31 each, this is your place

There's a reason why this hotel is half the price of others nearby. It's horrible. I booked a single. It was not on-suite. No one said. No one could say. The girl at reception hardly spoke English. The lighting in the room was simply strip lights with no covers (dangerous). I was kept awake for most of the night by the sound of the lift and double doors near my room. Housekeeping were busy at 8am on Saturday morning. I might have well been in a knocking shop in Paddington. In fact, for the money, it would have probably been better value.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to a little more cost and use a different hotel.
