Description: Originating from the heart of Soho (the colony for the unconventional and the kingdom of the one handed clock), Balans Soho Society reignites the same café still stands where it originally began almost three decades ago. Open around the clock the café has always been a busy hang-out by day and a refuge at 4am for those in need. It boldly asks 'How does one constitute a late breakfast 2pm or 2am? Not for the fainthearted, Balans Soho Society Café is a place to indulge. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and after-dark activities in the company of fellow bon vivants. It remains a café at heart, while serving up delicious dishes it also serves sandwiches and café style nosh. And it's all done in the spirit of Soho - the iconic corner of London that has always acted as a refuge for outsiders: minorities, eccentrics, bohemians, dreamers...people drawn together by a shared conviction that normal rules don't apply to them. A place to go when you feel like doing things you probably shouldn't.

“Feels and tastes good!”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

This little gem is so good that I have to let you into its' secret. Great, efficient and fun staff, delicious food and, if you're lucky, a pavement table in the sunshine watching the world go by. Staff assured us that if we waited indoors, we'd be next at a pavement table as soon as one became free and, as good as their word, we were promptly moved outside where we enjoyed fab food and cheeky cocktails. A real joy - can't wait to go back!

“An institution...”

Food is decent, prices ok, but I guess this is just a handy institution in soho! Fun street of London, good for people watching, hangover eating for eating to prevent the hangover next day..

“Great for breakfast”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

We went to Balans Cafe several times for breakfast while staying in Soho.
There was a good choice on the menu from the traditional cooked breakfast to lighter options (e.g. 2 eggs on toast or smoked salmon & scrambled egg).
The coffee was great and the food arrived quickly and was always excellent.
The staff are friendly and attentive.
Once we found this place, we didn't seek out anywhere else... it was that good.

“Always a winner. ”
Reviewed 25 March 2014 via mobile

My friends and I started visiting the restaurant 'Balans' which is located on the other end of old Compton st in Soho many years ago. Until we discovered the 'Balans Cafe'.

We now always go to the cafe over the restaurant. (At least once/twice a month) the food is great. Good portions, well cooked. The menu is vast and varied with daily specials. The menu is very similar to that of the main restaurant only cheaper. Something for everyone.

The waiting staff are always friendly and accommodating. In nice weather you can sit outside. We often bring the dog along and he's always made as welcome as we are (outside).
I'd recommend this place highly. They also do a great rewards card scheme that after only a few visits you can get a free meal.

“Perfect for Breakfast.”

An excellent for breakfast or brunch. Decent quality ingredients, tasty fry up. As good as I've had in London at reasonable prices.
