“Probably the nicest Holiday Inn ever”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

This is probably the nicest Holiday Inn ever: New, clean, with extremely friendly and helpful staff, big english and continental breakfast included, free wifi, and perfectly located close to underground and bus stations (bus no. 15 takes less than 15 mins to the tower, and goes up the Strand towards the center). It's clearly a great deal for London standards and this hotel category, so we would definitely stay there again.

As many of the reviewers have said - this hotel is not situated in the nicest of places & being in a London Zone 2 - we found the surroundings quite shabby & the 10min walk from the Shadwell station to the hotel is not something one would cherish.
That said the hotel is quite nice. I had 2 rooms booked in my name & being a Gold Member was auto upgraded to an Executive room. The person who checked us in was very polite & answered all our queries. She gladly pointed us out to an Indian restaurant 'Tayyabs' - about a 20 min walk & the food there was out of the world. The rooms were spic n span & the toiletteries offered in the Executive room were also of a good quality. Being short on time we ordered their take away breakfast for 2.95 GBP which was value for money. The hotel staff is well informed & they direct tourists to perfection.

We stayed here on a Sunday and Monday night in May 2014. Check in is officially at 2pm but we arrived just after 1 and were checked in immediately and upgraded to an executive room. We also received a free newspaper each day of our stay and there was a free chunky KitKat on arrival. Our room (225) was a good size with a spacious bathroom. Room facilities included minibar, iron and ironing board and safe. The immediate view was of some flats across the courtyard but we could also see the shard in the distance. We couldn't work out how to open the window (if it is possible) which is one of my pet annoyances with hotel rooms. The hotel is new so all the public areas look modern and clean. The bar stays open until late but was very quiet when we were there.

The nearest tube stations are around 5-10 minutes walk away and you can be in the west end in 30 minutes from the door with one change. The nearest station is probably Shadwell on the DLR which is good for travelling to the Tower Gateway. Whitechapel has a bigger selection of lines available including the Hammersmith & City which gives direct access to King's Cross and Liverpool Street. There is also a bus stop directly across the road from the hotel where a no15 will take you to Trafalgar Square.

The area around the hotel is downmarket but perfectly safe for wandering about at all times of day and night.

Thank you for taking the time to pass on your feedback following your stay with us. I was pleased to read you had an enjoyable stay. Just for future reference our windows do not open, this is due to noise and dust, both of which London has a lot of! I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel soon.

Seems a strange location to build this hotel as the area is not one of the nicest!

Couldn't fault this hotel in any way, the staff were very polite and friendly, nothing was too much trouble, the room was clean and comfortable, had everything we needed even down to a safe & mini fridge with water & cans! The buffet breakfast was just right to get you off to a long day of sightseeing with a choice of fruits, cereals, cheese, meats, full English, toast, pancakes so much to choose from!... I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to come to london and staying in Whitechapel. Hats off to all staff, keep up the good work. 10 out of 10!
