“A real gem - off the beaten track but well worth the detour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2012

Having known it was there for years but never quite got round to eating at Il Positano we finally visited on the recommendation of a friend and were extremely impressed – by the quality of the food (clearly top quality ingredients and a lot of care have gone in to the cooking, and the portions were very generous indeed), the welcome of the staff (we visited rather near the end of service, when a lot of places wouldn’t have been too keen on new diners - but were made very welcome indeed) – and by the unbelievably good value (it’s hard to see how this all adds up – having eaten in most restaurants in Battersea I think you would really struggle to find better value than this)!

In short - don’t be put off by the rather obscure location (up in the somewhat scruffier and less busy north of Battersea, and on a narrow and traffic-dominated high street with hardly any other restaurants) – or by the relatively unglamorous appearance of the outside of the restaurant - this is a proper Italian restaurant run by people who clearly know what they’re about, serving a range of traditional meat, fish and pasta dishes cooked well, and is most certainly worth a detour.

The ‘set menu’ – which curiously seems to cover any choice of starter and any main (with an option for dessert), and thus encompasses pretty much the entire menu – is what everyone goes for here. The décor is clean and fairly minimalist, and the ambience has pretty much the right balance between busy restaurant and being able to have a decent conversation. The wine list was solid and respectable value – someone here clearly knows their Italian wine as well, and the house red at a keenly priced £14 didn’t disappoint. This place takes its food seriously, and I’d very much recommend anyone looking for something better and more interesting than the usual chain restaurants of Northcote Road and Battersea Rise makes the trip up to Battersea Park Road – get there before everyone else finds out about it…

“Fantastic little find in Battersea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2011

Stayed in Battersea and decided to have a wander round the local area. Weather was atrocious and took a wrong turn that lead us nowhere. Decided to go the other way and this was the first restaurant we came to......and what a find! Fantastic little Italian restaurant nestled away in a row of shops. I had a great risotto cooked perfectly and my other half went for the Spaghetti Carbonara. Bread and olives and a couple of perfect Peroni's. Great value.
And so good was it that we went back again on the Saturday night where we splashed out a bit, having starters and mains. Calves liver was delicious as were the gamberini in garlic. With wine and beers and brandy our bill was less than £70. Would highly recommend and return again!
