Great small hotel, in a wonderful quiet location, but very expensive. However, for London it's a normal price. Very cozy, neat, and clean. The person at the reception counter was very helpful.

I have been staying at the 54 for 10 years for both business and pleasure, on my own, with my wife, with my wife and family, with my family and friends. Everybody loves it. The 54 is my home in London because that is exactly how I am treated, like a member of their family.

I stay in hotels all over the world, and short of the Shangri La in Hong Kong, the 54 is my favourite for business and personal use. But it depends what you want in a hotel. If you want a gym, fancy restaurant, executive lounge, loyalty scheme, or any of the other trappings of the chain hotels, then look elsewhere. But I am not interested in these, nor for paying for them whether I use them or not.

After 25 years of hotel life all I, and now my family, appreciate is a warm reception, a comfortable stay, a good night sleep, a shower that works, a great location, and a check in and check out experience that does not feel like queuing up at the post office at Christmas.
But most of all a feeling that I am staying somewhere that I feel at home, and not a dorm with benefits.

If you share these views there is no place like the 54. If they are ever booked I would rather commute (200m) than stay somewhere else.

Over the decade I have stayed with the 54 I have watched a string of continuous improvements, all of which have enhanced the property without taking away the essence of a boutique hotel, and this has been good to watch, right down to this weeks security enhancements re room key operation, very innovative.

I highly recommend this hotel.

For £200 i was given a basement room. It was damp and smelled terrible. I was offered an alternative room on the 4th floor with no lift beyond the 2nd and it was half the size with no discount offered. So i stayed in my basement room as i was exhausted. In the morning the skylight over the bed bleeds light quite badly so you get woken up. When you lift the blinds on the door to the terrace it is still so dark that you need to have the lights on during the day. So by the time i got to reception in the morning I was furious. £200 was a lot of money for such a sub standard offering. the manager listened to my complaints with patience and gave me a partial refund which i accepted and was happy with. He tried to state that the room was 'rentable' but i don't really think even he believed it. the rest of the hotel may be ok but no one should ever be put in a terrible damp smelling room like that. They have no food of any kind in the hotel at night and there are few shops in that area, so this is really a B&B with a bar. Please raise your standards at this place because your website and prces makes this place look better than it is.

The welcome was strange and - I was sent 4 floors up which means 2 floors without elevator and nobody even offered to carry my suitcase. The furniture in my room was full of scratches, the carpet stained and the ovall impression rather drab and dingy. The staff never cared to smile and acted rather clumsy. To ask for a taxi is a major ordeal - so in general almost same experience as CCLW describes in her review. Cannot recommend. My friend who travelled with me had same complaints concerning his room.

Booked this hotel for 1 night. Styles itself as 'boutique', which is only true in so far as it is small. The front door is looked on arrival. I buzzed for more than 5 minutes and got nothing. Was let in by another guest exiting. The receptionist barely said hello when I got to reception. I asked if the buzzer was working, as I had been left standing outside a long time and he did not mention it. I was informed, quite rudely, that he was wokring on his own and that his job was quite stressful, even if I did not think so.
The room was facing the road. SIngle-glazing meant it was quite loud, with traffic noises all night. Several things were broken, including one of the electrical sockets, which had a big hole straight into the wall with the live wires visible.
While the room was fairly clean, the carpet was heavily stained and the bedding had several hairs on it.
No peep holes or security chains on the doors were available, which is not great for security, espoecially as I am a woman travelling on my own. Security would also be a concern if returning late at night, as being let in took a LONG time every time.
Web site advertised room service, no menu, and slippers, not available.
On check-out, I asked them to order me a taxi accepting credit card payment. They asked twice if this was necessary and I confirmed. When I got to my destination, the driver had no card payment facilities.
All in all, I came away feeling grimy and dissatisfied. Not a place I would recommend to anyone.

We stayed for 6 nights with my girlfriend and we both liked it very much. Location is very good as told in many previous reviews (near to two underground stations, Natural History Museum, Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park etc). And when coming from Heathrow by underground, no need to change the train. Hotel has nice exterior and it is nicely decorated. Staff was very nice and helpful!

Actually only major downside was the noise of the street. Because of the traffic noise I did not sleep very well (That's only reason I did not rate this 5 stars). But on the other hand my girlfriend did sleep well. She was not bothered by the noise.
