“Lovely Hotel, would stay again!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2014

Myself a friend stayed here on 28 Feb 14 after being upgraded from The Lancaster - their sister hotel. We had originally booked The Lancaster for a twin room but with a shared bathroom. When we arrived we got told we were being upgraded to The Portland hotel with our own bathroom & we were not disappointed. Smart & welcoming staff & the hotel was very smart aswell. Our room was lovely, couldn't really fault it. Bathroom was clean, good shower & clean towels. Bedroom was nothing to complain about it. We didn't have breakfast as we enjoyed the lie in. For the location and price (£83) I would definitely stay again!!

This hotel which was a converted dwelling house or 2 is well equipped.Service is excellent and the only problem I had was there is no in house dining facilities you have to walk about 100 yards to get breakfast in a sister hotel.having said that breakfast was excellent with really great service.I had to get a room change as my basement room originally allocated was far too noisy but my new room was great. It came with sofa and little kitchen area microwave etc.The room was very clean and well maintained.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upstairs not in the basement.

I was upgraded to a bigger room on arrival and it was very large, with a big sofa and was generally very, very nice. Whenever I have stayed at the Portland I have had a mini kitchen and although this seems odd in relation to the grand room, it is really handy.

The room was very clean and tidy and fantastic value for central London. The downside is, a lot of the rooms here are great but if you're unlucky and get a smaller one you really are missing out and it's not such a great feeling.

You have to go next door for breakfast, which is a bit of a pain if you need to take luggage with you if you don't want to come back to your room, but it's not the end of the world.

I would happily stay here again and have given this a good rating based on getting such a great room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back if you can (a garden room) as these tend to be quieter.

The hotel is really nice! I stayed there for just one night in september 2013. It has a huge bed, good decoration, and great attention from the people who worked at the hotel. Breakfast was also fine!
The only problem we had was that there was no air conditioner in the room, even though we had a premium room. We stayed in London during a really warm day and during the afternoon it was a problem. We also couldn't communicate abroad, we asked the receptionist who did her best to make it work but there was no way we could use the telephone.
Anyway, I recommend this hotel, probably not during summer, but for the rest of the time it's more than fine!

I agree with the comment in August that "This is a generic large hotel cut up into smaller sections to feign "boutique" status. ". You have to walk down the road to a neighbouring hotel for breakfast - not a good idea in the rain. And whilst my room was comfortable, when I made coffee in the room, the milk portions must have been significantly outdated, as the milk flocculated when added to hot water. Quality control clearly isn't their thing here. But - itr's a convenient position, the staff are friendly. But it could be so much better.

We were satisfied wih the hotel on the whole. It is in a grest location and close to many restaurants. The staff is pretty helpful but some did not speak or understand English very well, so we had a difficult time geting directions to places we wanted to go. The room was clean, the bed comortble, but the furniture, especially sofa, very uncomfortable. There is a microwave and refrigerator but not much else. Our room was on the street side so many noises like motorcycles and garbage trucks could be heard below our room.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room above the first level.
