“Not worth it!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

We needed a hotel just for a night and near St Pancras which is all this hotel really offers (location). Half of the lights didn't work, tv didn't work (front desk wasn't any help), and the shower didn't drain correctly causing the water to fill up at the bottom of the shower, which made chunks of dirt/whatever from the shower floor float around. If you have a room facing the street, there is a lot of street noise. Breakfast is very minimal. Extremely hot and muggy inside during the summer and no AC or fans in rooms. Last but not least, I found a tick on my leg. Not worth $166!

If you are looking for a fancy, high class hotel where you can spend plenty of time and relax... GO ELSEWHERE. If you are here for a few nights and are looking for a place to crash... it's ideal. We stayed in a twin room while working down here, it's walking distance to King's Cross St. Pancras and plenty of places to eat. The rooms are clean, although they are really rather small. There is a TV in the room, again, it's small but it provides some form of entertainment. Bathroom is tiny and really very 'bare minimum'. Shower is not a particularly good one but again.... it does the job for a few nights! Although so far the theme of this review has been 'it does the bare minimum to be acceptable' there are a few small touches that really make you feel welcome here. Small things such as biscuits being provided in the room upon arrival and replenished each day, similarly with soap and shampoo. Breakfast is your standard continental breakfast, nothing special but more than adequate! The garden area at the back is no different to the rest of the hotel. Nothing special, but good enough. The area can be quite noisy too if you get a room on the front, especially with the windows open! But then again, what can you expect being so close to Kings Cross! Overall, if you're travelling or are staying in london for a short time and don't plan on spending much time in your hotel... this is a great place to come. If you are going on a 'proper holiday' I would not recommend this hotel. I stayed here for 3 nights and would not recommend staying much longer.

Rude reception staff - this particular front desk person looked as though he had been in a fight. Room in basement - stuffy and hot - no air con - fan available but ancient with questionable health and safety...TV was not wired up and had loose live wires surrounding it. Arrived to find someone having a bonfire in the garden which is not an 'oasis' in the city as one trip advisor rater has put it but more of a smoking area with cigarette butts all over the floor and a few rusty chairs... The bonfire stunk out our basement room and upon being asked to stop it, continued for several hours without any apology or acknowledgement.
Although seemingly generally clean, found a hair or two on the bedside table and the walls are seriously marked and needs a full refurb. The stairs down to the basement rooms are also an accident waiting to happen - very steep and difficult to negotiate with a suitcase - no staff assistance!
Breakfast doesn't start until 7am which is no good for the early Eurostar. Upon asking whether we could have it earlier, resounding 'no' was received...
The only thing good about this hotel is the location and proximity to St Pancras - 10/15 min walk although be careful you don't get shot on the way (not a particularly salubrious area!)
Good luck!

My daughter and I stayed here for two nights on a recent long weekend visit to London. Yes, it is a budget hotel and not luxurious by any standards. But staff friendly and helpful, sheets and towels clean and changed daily, tea and coffee in room replenished daily, close to Kings Cross and St. Pancras, breakfast consists of tea, coffee, toast, cereals, croissants, ham, cheese, and fruit juices. Basement rooms have patio doors which open onto small garden, so not hot at all. No noise from traffic that we could hear. Two excellent nights sleep. If you want a basic hotel with amenities that is close to tube and all sights of London then this place is adequate.

I stayed one night on July 1st in this hotel. It is close to the St. Pancras station especially practical for Eurostar travellers ! You can walk there from the Station.
The staff is very friendly, our room (n°6) small but very clean and had everything we needed. The best was we had a door in our room leading to a beautiful little garden with palm trees and roses ! A miracle in the middle of this city !

Room Tip: If you choose a room in the basement you have access to a little garden !

First night, gun shots out the back and being situated in the basement it was like being in a frying pan with a bathroom that's like a Rubix cube where the shower was situated half a metre from the toilet with no curtain with mold on the shower head. The staff where also banging about At 3-30 in morning on chairs and it was very basic with no DVD player. On a good note lovely drinking water although during my shower the water cut and wouldn't come on for half hour and at one point had to get a cold shower and use a stained dirty towel which was all frayed. Also for breakfast was given a dirty knife with chocolate spread on, only to ask for a new one which conveniently was the same. At all costs avoid I would rather sleep in the underground

Room Tip: Go to the travel lodge or premier inn

We stayed in room 21.

The room was clean and comfortable. It was a bit cosy. The bathroom was tight and looked as though it was newly renovated. It was very nice and quiet.

Swinton Staff were very nice and reminded us that breakfast was included with the room. The continental breakfast was nice with table service.

King's Cross Underground was about 10 min walk away, but there were bus stops on the same street.

The surrounding area was a bit rough and dirty, but safety wasn't a concern.

Good value for money.

Room Tip: Room 21 was situated away from the street and very quiet.
