Review of Swinton Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 8 Apr 2017via mobile
The location is great, but the road noise is constant all night long. The room is compact & clean and so was the bathroom, but there wasn't a hook in the bathroom to hold the towel. It includes breakfast, but only the toast is hot; everything else is cold cereal or ham.

Stayed here for 2 nights in a single room. The room was extremely small. Only a single bed, a small clothesrack, and a little christ of drawers, and the room was full. The bathroom was "all in one", no separate shower or shower curtain, so if you shower, the toilet and the sink were Soaking wet as well. The door to the bathroom was flaky. Due to all the water, it had swollen up some time in the past, and now, the underside was rotting away. The room was extremely noisy: street noises were not blocked at all. Which made for 2 nights of minimal sleep... Breakfast was very sober. The breakfastroom was very small as well. Croissants in a plastic bag, some buns and cornflakes. No fruit, yoghurt,... Coffee was ok though.
So, the only 2 pro's for this hotel: location close to the station, and the coffee... That's it...

One of the cheaper establishments in central London, however also one of the shabbiest.
Positives included the speed of the Wifi, the efficiency at reception and the proximity to London Kings Cross railway station and underground.
However, the decor is very dated, with evidence of pealing wall paper. The room was very small, with equally small beds. In the bathroom, it took a long time to get hot water. It should also be noted that some of the tiles were dirty. Worse of all, there was an unpleasant smell lingering around the room and hotel.
Breakfast was mediocre, with an unappetising continental buffet. Some of the staff were also busy playing on their phones.
All in all, not what I would expect from a central London establishment.

Obviously this is a budget hotel so don't come expecting the ritz 😂 it's clean, practical and good if your exploring London and just need somewhere to shower and sleep! We had a double room and I have to say the bed was slightly small but it's not too bad. The staff were really helpful and did whatever we asked of them. You can leave your suitcases there for £2.50 a day/bag.

Not a great hotel. No matter how many bad reviews, I don't think this hotel is going to improve.. just over 200 for 2 nights, not worth the price.

The walls and blinds were dirty, as was most things around the room and hotel. The bed was pretty stiff. Shower was cold the first night? Worked ok second night. The lift is also a very unpleasant experience..

Breakfast was ok, staff are fairly polite.

Probably wouldn't stay again, only plus side really was that it's close to the station. Disappointed!

This was a last minute booking for a 1 night stay to attend a very early appointment the next morning at Barts hospital.
We stayed in room number 20 which is a ground floor twin room at the front of the hotel, next to the road. Consequently there is traffic noise from the road all the time.
First impression of the room was scruffy and dated.
Only a black-out blind at the window - the addition of curtains would make it feel warmer and block out some of the road noise.
There is a radiator in the room but the heating wasn't on. In the morning the room was quite cold, the duvets were thin and there were no blankets supplied. When we went for breakfast the reception area was lovely and warm!
The TV was an old fashioned box type very high up on the wall, I had to clean the screen it was filthy. A flat screen TV would improve the look of the room.
A bedside lamp would be useful as you have to get out of bed to turn off the light!
We had 1 hand and bath towel each but I had to use my hand towel as a bath mat when I had a shower as there was no bath mat. Nowhere to hang towels in the bathroom, no waste bin and no shelves to put our cosmetics bags on which is inconvenient. The sink tap wasn't attached to anything - it just wobbled about!
There is a hanging rail + drawer unit next to the bed to hang clothes on but a wardrobe would look much better in the same space.
Tea, coffee & biscuits in the room, hairdryer next to the mirror.
Breakfast was continental style, tea & toast were brought to the table.
All the staff we met were helpful and polite, when we asked about getting a cab for the morning the man on reception booked one for us.
For the price (£86) this was probably value for money in London, but it wouldn't take a lot to update and improve the room.
I think the owners of this hotel should take a look at the rooms and ask themselves if they'd be happy to stay there - I suspect not!
