On arrival at 10.30pm, this shabby and dated building was like a youth hostel in the foyer, with lots of foreign students sitting in the 'cafe' making a lot of noise (for cafe, read canteen area with vending machines and bright lights). Very off putting. Checked in and went to my room (316), through ancient lifts and miserably dark and uncared for corridors. Feared the worst.

After this, the room was a pleasant surprise. Obviously recently redecorated - albeit as cheap as possible. So fresh paint, new curtains and new bedding. But furniture and doors all chipped, cracked, peeling, too big for room. But it was clean and quiet.

Bathroom is tiny. No water pressure in shower, so washing was a challenge. No toiletries - I knew this was a basic hotel but presumed there would at least be a soap dispenser. But no. Bathroom door was a state - chipped, warped, peeling, and rotten from water leaks. No shower mat. Towels as rough as sandpaper.

You don't hear anything from the streets, but you do hear your neighbours in their rooms (you can hear them going to the toilet!!).

The most annoying thing was being woken every hour on the hour in the night by a strange electronic beeping for 2 minutes in the hallway. All night long. Consequently woke up looking and feeling exhausted and terrible! Really awful night's sleep, despite comfy bed.

Breakfast was included in my room rate - otherwise I wouldn't have touched it. There's cheap looking greasy 'meat' products under a heat lamp. I had cereal and a yoghurt. All of the glasses had dried on bits of pulp on them - yuck. Staff were friendly though.

Location is good, and I'd have been more lenient about the shabbiness if not for the beeping all night which meant I had very little sleep. No phone in room to ring reception and ask about it either.

The team were very helpful and friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, Bathroom clean, plenty of fresh towels. Breakfast although not continental was very adequate and served in a nice bow windowed room.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel, the room was clean upon arrival, it was basic but good value, clean sheets and comfy beds with very little noise so slept well, the staff were friendly and helpful. We ate in the dining area for an evening meal which was hot, a good sized portion and tasty, I would definitely stay here again!

I use Travelodge frequently as it provides great value. There are plusher hotels, but they cost more. Whether business or pleasure, I am looking for a clean room in a convenient location and Travelodge provide this. The corridors are sometimes a little worn in places, but the areas are always clean and the staff friendly and helpful.
