This was our first UK stop arriving with motorhomes from Slovenia. We were pitched up very fast and service was very nice. The camp itself is VERY WELL maintained and you can see, that somebody really cares. Grass is perfect, toilettes spotless and every need taken care of.

Just a short walk(5min) downhill is everything you need bakery, store, local pub and most important train station for London City. Train ride to London Charring Cross was only 25 minutes and always plenty seats to sit down.

I can only recommend Abbey Wood and would definitely come back if camping/motor home....

The site is tricky to get to with narrow streets and parked cars an issue. The site is the usual high standard found on 5 star CC sites. The electric boundary fence is somewhat off putting on arrival but the surrounding area can seem intimidating at night so I guess the fence serves as reassurance. Some of the pitches are sloping and ours (61) was adverse cambered which caused the jockey wheel to bottom out on reversing onto the pitch.
The wildlife was entertaining, there is a wild flock of parakeets which frequent the trees around the site. Their raucous calls and the flash of limegreen feathers made an interesting change to crows and blackbirds! At dusk it is the turn of urban foxes to make an appearance. They are quite tame and virtually beg for scraps from the BBQ. The site was populated with many people taking part in the London Marathon during our stay, and the Wardens had made an effort in the form of "Good Luck" banners for all those taking part. An £8 travel card gets you access to all of London transport for all day (and night) travel. Abbey Wood rail station is a 10 min walk away and is on the line into Charing Cross station. Transfer to the underground and you are on the Northern and Jubilee Line with Leicester Square just a few stops away for the West End shows. A bit of noise from aircraft which I think was from London City Airport but nothing too intrusive.

Caravanners and motorhomers - this is an ideal site for those visiting London. I've now used the site twice and not been disappointed. Although one has to drive through an urban area, the site is surrounded by trees and you'd never think you were in Suburbia.

All the normal facilities of a good Caravan Club site with friendly wardens, warm loos and showers (and spotless!).

Getting into central London from here is easy. The local Railway Station, Abbey Wood (5-10 mins walk away), has frequent services to Charing Cross, Cannon St and London Bridge

Warm welcome, consistently high standard. Only 10 minutes walk to rail station with friendly staff, then London Bridge is @ 25 mins... Waterloo another 5 mins (or Charing Cross 10 mins). There are also buses to Woolwich then on to central London. The site is quiet, with owls calling at dusk, foxes, etc The shower/toilet blocks have underfloor heating which is welcome in cooler weather. Grounds and all facilities immaculate.

Spent 6 nights here last week in our motorhome. This is the second time we have been here, the previous time was August for the Olympics and we found it fantastic both times.
Relatively easy to find and negotiate in a large vehicle. When you arrive on the site it seems almost rural, lots of trees and greenery (even in the winter) You wouldn't really know how close you were to London.
My daughter was working in the West End for a few days so we went in on the train with her every day. Its just a 10 min walk to the station and a 40 min direct train to Charing Cross - we walked up to Leicester Square from there in around 10 mins rather than bothering with the underground.
The surrounding area, particularly the area on the way to the station looks a bit dodgy if I'm honest but even when we got back really late there were no safety issues and we were happy to walk back to the site.
The site itself is beautifully laid out with large pitches and spotlessly clean toilet blocks and showers.
The wardens are friendly and helpfull and a mine of information about cheap restaurants in the city etc.
Didnt eat at the take aways or the Indian Restaurant in Abbey Wood itself - didnt really like the look of them but there are a couple of other shops where you can pick up bits and pieces on the way to the station.
Overall we love this site and will definitely go back - well done The Caravan Club!

Abbey Wood Caravan Club Site is a Caravan Club Golden Jubilee Site and feels positively rural when you reach this gently sloping verdant site. Its mature tree screening and spacious grounds making it a secure site. Good railway connections are within walking distance of the caravan site and will get you into Central London in just 35 minutes. Alternatively, nearby Greenwich offers its own blend of fascinating attractions, including the famous observatory. River cruises operate from nearby Abbey Wood Caravan Club Site between Greenwich, Tower Bridge, Westminster, Kew, Richmond and Hampton Court. Open all year, this is a busy caravan site and is very popular with European visitors during the summer months. There are good reasons to visit Abbey Wood throughout the year though.
