Description: Primrose Bakery was founded in October 2004. Having started out baking for children's parties, Martha Swift and then business partner Lisa Thomas, quickly noticed how well the cupcakes went down with adults! Now twelve years on, Martha Swift is sole owner and the business continues to go from strength to strength. We have three shops located in Primrose Hill, Covent Garden and Kensington, plus five cookbooks and an App. At times it's hard to believe that something that started at home has grown so much. It gives us all a huge sense of satisfaction to see people queuing out into the street on a Saturday afternoon, waiting to buy our cakes - there is no better feeling than this, to see that people really do want to buy and eat what we have made. We have tried to keep it to simple old fashioned cooking, using good quality, seasonal and well sourced ingredients, as one might use at home when baking for your own children, friends and family.

I have one of their baking books so was keen to try the real deal. Its a cute little bakery with 3 tables and we were lucky to get one. It's on the corner of Tavistock St so you can watch the world go by as you enjoy tea and cakes! The smell of cakes baking is quite overwhelming and it's hard not to leave without a bag of something. They had just made a batch of custard cream cupcakes as we were leaving!

Went to this bakery before visiting the theatre. it was open until 7.30. Had breakfast tea and Victoria sponge. A traditional choice considering there were so many other options including cupcakes and biscuits. Very helpful staff and great cake.

My girlfriend had been begging me to take her here and it happened to be her birthday when we were in the area.

I cant eat any of their wares due to my restricted diet but she was absolutely loving her cupcake and mars bar slice. I bought her the baking book too and the staff were very friendly and nice.

A film crew was here when we visited so it gauges how famous this place is!

I assume that this is the original Primrose Bakery - it is a very small cupcake bakery with seating for about 10 people maximum. There is metered parking just outside and it is about 10 minutes walk from the pleasant Primrose Hill shopping area which contains the lovely Primrose Hill Books and other boutique type shops. Across the road from the bakery is Melrose and Morgan a very upmarket deli. We had pleasant hot chocolate and coffee with a nice cupcake so it was a good pitstop whilst in the area.

We ran across Primrose Bakery on our way to Covenant Garden. There are 2 locations, one in NW1 (69 Cloucester) and one near Covent Garden (42 Tavistock Street). The Covenant Garden store was warm, charming and the service was friendly. Most cupcakes were the same price as other cupcakes we have found in London. These cupcakes were almost as good as Magnolia (New York) or Confexxion (Pasadena, CA). The frosting was delicious; the cake was a little heavy and dry. Overall, a wonderful treat. There was a good selection of teas and coffee as well.

Like many restaurants in London (Nero, Pret a Manger) there is a surcharge if you stay in the store to eat your cupcake. Not very friendly, but the store isn't very large with only 3 tables.
