“Excellent hotel. Would stay again.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 December 2011

My girlfriend and I recently stayed at St. Ermin's for three nights in late October and had a delightful stay. We are somewhat budget travellers that occassionally splurge. We agonized over finding a hotel in London and spent a number of hours searching online and with some great rates and a supurb location, we settled on St. Ermin's.

Having taken the 'Chunnel' train from Paris into London our cab took us to St. Ermin's and the hotel makes a great first impression. Its quite evident that a recent renovation has taken place. The courtyard driveway is beautiful and the lobby is very nicely appointed. It should be noted the immediate area around the hotel is really a business area but the location is a 10 minute walk to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and some major sites. A tube stop is just around the corner from the hotel.

The room itself was quite nice with a very comfortable bed with high thread count sheets and bedding. The room was not huge (think NYC size) but having been to London previously, we knew what to expect. The room had a nice flatscreen TV and well appointed bathroom, a closet, an area to brew your own coffee or tea and a desk area to set-up a laptop. A downside here is there is no free wifi here and you must pay for wireless.

If there was a downside to our room is the window overlooked an ugly building and alley nearby and also painting and renovation seemed to be ongoing on our floor. Also, the supply closet for the maids was right next to our room door and early each morning we would awaken to the maids getting ready for their work day and opening and closing (and sometimes slamming) the door to this closet. Given my booking was through hotels.com I wondered if our booking was given lower priority to a floor that was still under renovation.

The hotel has a lovely bar where we had a drink but did not try the restaurant option, but it looked quite nice. The hotel concierage was helpful in giving us directions to some sites and directions on the Tube. Also, Juan was helpful in getting a poster delivered to the U.S. for us, which we appreciated.

Overall, this is great hotel and if the rates remain at affordable levels, this is a tremendous value. It does appear some minor kinks are being worked out with what I presume is a recent and perhaps ongoing renovation - but this is a hotel with a lot charm. I would stay here again.

Room was excellent. Bed and bathroom perfect. Before we went out for the evening we dined in the Caxton Grill which was top drawer. Great food, great service. Then for a night cap we went in the cocktail bar which is lovely too. It's just next to the tube, but also close enough to walk to the sites too. Brilliant location. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

We stayed at the Mayfair recently. St. Ermin's Hotel is just as nice and half the price.

Can't fault it ... we'll just book there everytime now.

This newly refurbished hotel is a nice choice for central London next to the tube. The service was really good overall. London hotels can be notoriously tricky so I was extremely pleased with this choice. The lobby area is very smart and welcoming but once you get to your room you wonder if this really is it. My room was probably an entry level unit but even so, it was the same size (almost) as the bathroom at Hyatt Johannesburg where I stayed just before, really. I had problems with 2 suitcases and am happy my wife didn't join as we would have ended up in a fight, or excessive lovemaking in the crammed space. Nevertheless, I had great sleeps in the really comfy bed. The bed took up 75% of available floor space so thank God it was a nice one, including lovely duvet, pillows and sheets. Again, the bathroom was very small, I actually almost had a panic attack when I closed the door wondering if I should collapse if the door would open up. Terrible views into an ugly building so the blinds where down throughout. I could not use the elevator due to the same reason, panic attacks. Plus it always was somewhere else when I needed it. Very decent but spartan bfst buffett but the best of all were the lovely waitressess from all over the world, brazil, italy, poland etc. Not a pom around so one wonder what they do as this seemed to go for most people I interacted with whilst in London. Dinners were really good, particularly considering its a hotel restaurant that mostly leave a lot to be desired. They specialize in grilled food. Its not a cheap place. I spent as much I would for a weeks holiday in the sun (incl flights) for 4 nights there. But it was actually worth it, a really good aftertaste linger still. Recommended

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a marvellous review, it sounds as though your wife missed out on a romantic time away!
We have had many positive comments about how comfortable our beds are and we believe that they are one of the most important aspects of the room, hence the large size.
As you rightly pointed out, we do have different room types and I would like to recommend one of our larger executive suites for your next stay, which would easily fit not only Snow White but also at least five of her seven dwarf friends!
Joking aside, we do have a variety of larger rooms and the good news is that we have installed two large elevators which will be operational by the end of the year.
We really hope you will visit us again one day and thank you again for your great comments!

Warmest regards,
Douglas McHugh

Lovely hotel in a great location where the staff really work hard on giving top notch service. If your looking for an alternative from Park Lane. Then give it a go.

A very warm and welcoming hotel,a hidden secret gem. The service was outstanding, the staff could not had done more! Our room was immaculate, what you would expect at a hotel of this level. Dinner was just so good, they made my daughter feel very special for her birthday.

My family stayed at the St Ermin's for 4 days. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel's location was spectacular - a few blocks from the Underground, restaurants and many attractions. The room was a little small, but the bathroom was completely renovated and modern. I would definitely stay there again.

We were recommended by a friend to this hotel and there words were 'this is a proper hotel not like that one around the corner' and we feel that was an understatement. Unfortunately we were only staying one night, but every thing was so slick and efficient( don't be fooled they were busy and did have functions running) but from ordering a sandwich on room service, to leaving at 545 am it was an enjoyable stay, and the next time we are in London this will be our hotel of choice.
