Description: Ombra brings the spirit, food and aperitivo of the Venetian 'bacardi' to the canal-side of East London. The name Ombra literally means 'shadow'. In Venetian dialect it's the familiar term for a small glass of wine which originates from the traditional wine sellers retreating to the shade of St. Mark's Tower to shield the wines from the hot sun. Similarly, Ombra is a place where you can retreat to the shade protected from the hot spots of London and chill out at a place that is yours. Take your time over a daily changing menu of fresh homemade pasta, seasonal vegetables, fresh fish and meat, organic wines and good old conversation.

“Service really inefficient ”
Reviewed 24 July 2014 via mobile

I appreciate their spritz and food but unfortunately service is really slow and inefficient. More than one hour for getting a negroni, cutlery and an Italian platter. We have been served by a really impolite waitress. Being able to served customers properly should be a priority.

“Sometimes great sometimes not so if you're not careful about what you order ”
Reviewed 22 July 2014 via mobile

Ombra is a Venetian restaurant at the end of trendy Viner street in a very east London kind of alternative setting. Prices are good, nice atmos and good selection of booze.

I give it a 4 whereas my wife will give it a 2 but I think it's because in the six or so times we've been (she's a patient woman) she orders something that turns out to be not so good. And that's kind of the problem - I like it, she doesn't - so you have to be careful what you order - some of the food is a bit inaccessible for non Venetian food lovers, but well worth a try.

“Service was pretty bad , food on the average”
Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

I went with 3 friends
We ordered wine and both the bottles arrived at the table opened already
When I asked explanation the guy in charge said , "is better they are opened , I can offer you something "?
We ordered some to share plates but we had to set up the table by ourself
On the bill there was no service charge (of corse )
But one of the guy working there come to us saying that service charge was not included ( as demand to leave tips )

“Unfriendly, expensive”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

The only thing this place has going for it is its outside seating area. The staff were very unwelcoming and the food was pretty average.

When I arrived they made me feel like an inconvenience for asking to see the menu, and left me standing at the bar for ages. The food was ok, but not good value for money.

“Gone downhill”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

When Ombra opened it was a great quirky restaurant serving a few dishes well- fresh ingredients, simple but powerful flavours with great combinations, and very reasonably priced. Since then they've dropped the "authentic Italian" approach, and have taken to using cheap ingredients - poor quality meat, badly cooked pasta and bland dishes overall. Their strategy now is "pile 'em high" - Hackney kool kidz that is - the place is chock full of them, standing room only, draped over the tables and since they don't know their Dolmio from their dolchelatte this is not a bad business strategy, but it does make for a bad dining experience. Give it a miss.
