very good coffee, expensive food, atmosphere is not great being in an airless basement - not a place for the summer. Would be great on evenings, but is shut.

Spending the weekend in a nearby hotel I came across the Bloomsbury Coffee House. Hidden away below pavement level is this lovely independent coffee shop. Such a change to the usual Costa, Nero & Starbucks experience. The staff were friendly and although the furnishings were basic it had a good relaxed atmosphere. The coffee was good, my only disappointment being that the range of cakes and pastries available was limited, although it was 9.00 am on a Sunday morning. Also has free wi-fi. I'll definately be back.

We found this early on a Sunday morning looking for somewhere to have a better and cheaper breakfast than the hotel standard. The signboard was prominent at street level, although the coffee shop itself is down a rather steep external iron staircase in the basement of the St Athan's hotel. The two rooms had a pleasant relaxed atmosphere, the coffee was good and our breakfasts (one scrambled eggs, one bacon and eggs) very nicely done. Took away a generous granola bar for later. Prices reasonable, and good value for money,

I noticed this place on my route to work, after a couple of weeks decided to try it out. Its not your usual cafe as its located in a basement and you need to walk down a flight of stairs to get into the cafe.
First thing I noticed is that the place was fairly busy, and seats were limited. The menu consisted of very few items which most likely changes on a daily basis. The food for what it is in my opinion was over priced. I ordered a sandwich which cost £4.60. No complaints as the sandwich was good but not good enough for that price tag. The staff were friendly and engaging. Would I go back maybe! The atomosphare was nice and they offer free internet, seemed to me alot of the people in the cafe were there only for the internet.
