“Very understated, tiny cocktail bar”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

This is a great bar if you know what to expect. It's not a typical "speakeasy" type of lounge. First of all, it's tiny tiny. The seats are not that comfy, the decor won't wow you, the selection is not large. Having said all that, I really loved this bar. The staff doesn't take itself too seriously, but they are serious about making cocktails. There is no flash to the drinks, they are simply, classically prepared -- no cocktails served in teacups here (not that there's anything wrong with that!). Some of the drinks are quite small, but I didn't mind this as we were able to sample every drink on the menu. The night we went there was a pianist and singer, they were marvelous, and we had a wonderful evening.

“Hummmm”
Reviewed 21 June 2013

Came here on a whim after work, it's a lovely little venue but I advise booking as they have a 'no standing' policy!
Live jazz music is really good. Cocktail menu is very limited and odd,
Don't come here if you aren't up for drinking some random things you've never herd of. Also, the portion size is very very small!
I think it would be a great place for a date, as I think thats what everyone else was doing in there!
Quite expensive but thats normal in this area of London.

“Perfect little find in Islington”
Reviewed 7 June 2013

This tiny little bar is ideal for cocktail sampling. Great staff help you through the menu and even treat you to samples and little bites to eat. Parmesan, olives and cured ham are delicious and the Oyster Prairie cocktail is a must.

“More cocktails than a box-set of Madmen”
Reviewed 29 April 2013

A great little 'speakeasy' well worth seeking out in a quiet side-street of Angel-Islington.
They make brilliant classics like the Old Fashioned and Sidecar, some more adventurous things like their own special take on a Gimlet, and then some really on-trend cocktails using things like hay infused vodka made in their own 'lab'. Prices are up there with a trendy soho bar, but the cocktails are superb and well worth it for a couple of drinks to start or close a night.

The bar is just that, a bar - a small, cosy room (sometimes with live piano), some (very good) snacks, and out-and-out cocktails which are almost unequalled in London. The (not so) secret to their success is the experimentation in the 'lab' and the owners drive to perfect cocktails. It has been said to me by staff that the owner concocted their own hot sauce for their legendary Bloody Mary, in order to get the roundness of heat that he was searching for...

Top that sort of enthusiasm for the perfect tipple with the fact that each bartender has to spend a day a week in the lab, making house 'secrets' and trying to invent new ones, and you can see why this bar with no name has such a loyal crowd.

p.s. - they do cocktail masterclasses on saturday afternoons before the bar opens. Check them out if you are a cocktail aficionado and want to know how to make some of the great drinks at home...
