“Wasn't ready for this!”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

I travel with my mother, she is 44 and I am 25 and we are not picky. Sometimes we even stay at hostels.
I saw those really good reviews about this hotel at trip advisor so I was prepared for a nice budget hotel- and a clean one.
We knew there is no lift and we were ok with it. But, when we arrived I almost cried a liitle bit.
Ok, the room is big but the beds are disgusting they have those blue awful blankets that seems no body ever washed them, the blankets were torn and seemed they have been used and never changed in this hotel since it was opened.- You could see the linen was clean but it had stains that didn't come off- same about the towels.
And the beds were extremely uncomfortable- every move made them shake.
When we got to the hotel after a day out you could see nobody acually cleaned too much- yes they cleaned the bathroom and the garbage can but the floor wasn't cleaned.
And all of this for 100 pounds for a night- I know it is a good price for this location, but it seemed more like a hostel than a hotel.
The bathroom though was nice- clean.
The breakfast was ok, not good not bad.
But seriously I am shocked about the reviews of this hotel.
Ohh and asking two pounds PER ITEM for luggage storage is not that cool.

Our room was on the top floor and absolutely tiny, but to stay for a night or two, it's definitely great value in a pretty street and decent enough location. Would recommend if you just need a place to crash, or if you need a budget place to explore London from.

We spent three nights in a first floor room. I would call it a nice, average, clean, Paddington hotel. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The bed was good and the bath private. Coffee/tea maker but no hair dryer or hand towel. The walls between the rooms are rather thin and we were awakened a couple times. Breakfast is self-serve continental, food was good and there was some variety to choose between. Breakfast room was nice and bright. Ten minute walk to Paddington Station, less to Hyde Park and nearby tube stations. It’s far enough away from Paddington to have the feel of a quiet London neighborhood.

Room Tip: No elevator so lower floors are best.

When my husband and I began planning our September 2012 trip to London (our first trip to that city, and our second to England overall), we originally made arrangements to rent a vacation apartment in Bayswater. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience with the rental firm we chose, leaving us, a month out from our trip, to scramble to make an 8-night booking at a hotel. I found the Caring Hotel on TripAdvisor, and it both fit within our budget and was well recommended by the reviews. We were given a fantastic room on the second floor - fairly small, but extremely clean, and with an awesome full-wall window that drew upward to reveal a little balcony and a nice view of Craven Hill Gardens, the road the hotel is situated on. I was particularly relieved about the bathroom - I tend to find hotel bathrooms a little icky, but the sink and tub here were sparkling, and I immediately felt comfortable.

The best part about the Caring Hotel was its location. We found the 10-minute walk from Paddington Station to be very manageable, and even people with more luggage or small children probably wouldn't find it hard to catch a cab and arrive in minutes. The hotel is minutes away on foot from the Bayswater (Circle and District lines) and Queensway (Central line) tube stations, and since we took the tube everywhere, this was one of the biggest pluses for us. Craven Hill Gardens itself, and the streets that surround it, are quiet and removed from much of the traffic noise we were expecting in London. The hotel is also super close to Kensington Gardens, with access to Hyde Park as well. This was another big plus for us.

Our interactions with hotel staff were really nice. We're low-key travellers and we don't really rely on hotel staff too much, but check-in went very smoothly and the person at the front desk was quite friendly. We actually had a small hiccup at checkout with some confusion about our final charges, with the result of our being temporarily overcharged; but upon returning to the USA, I emailed with the front desk, and the overcharge was promptly refunded. We were already telling everyone we could about what a great experience we had here, but I think the professional, prompt way in which the hotel resolved this small problem really clinched my appreciation for it. We're planning to spend another few days in London in March 2014, and we will absolutely be staying at the Caring Hotel again. Our expectations were definitely exceeded, and I would recommend this hotel to a close friend or family member without hesitation. Happy travels!

We had a pleasant 2 night stay at the end of June. We were in room 40 (en suite) on the top floor of the hotel . Be forewarned that you will climb four sets of stairs to the top floor (the last 2 sets are quite narrow and steep making it quite a workout trying to maneuver luggage).

The room was large for London hotels however the en suite was very compact but manageable. The shower had great water pressure. We reserved a double but luckily they gave us a triple (two beds pushed together plus a single bed on the other side of the room). A minor annoyance was the bed was on wheels and would roll away from the wall/headboard leaving a gap that my pillow would fall into. As for the rest of the room, there was plenty of storage space in the closet in the room. And the night stands and a small dresser provided plenty of space for storing sundry items that we had unpacked.

The continental style breakfast was plentiful including cereal, bread, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, juice, coffee, tea, etc. (The second morning we opted to walk up near Paddington Station (10 mins walk) to get a full English breakfast at a little place called Raffles….Full English brekkie for 3 or 4 pounds sterling!).

Overall we enjoyed our stay and would gladly make a repeat visit.

Located in the nice center of London, in a peaceful quarter (north of Kensington Gardens), the Caring Hotel proposed simple but comfortable rooms for a reasonable cost compared to the prices practised by hotels in London. The reception is personalized and helpful.

Room Tip: There is no lift and three floors, so choose a room situated at the first floor if you're tired...

Hotels in London can be expensive, especially if you want a nice one close to the city. The Caring Hotel is reasonably priced and close to the city center. It's clean, well maintained, comfortable, and the hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. It's in a very nice neighbourhood on a quiet street (get the feel of what it's like to live in London). There are several tube stations nearby - about a 10 minute walk to/from the hotel. We initially used Queensway but in order to get from the platform to the street level you have to use an elevator and one of the two was broken. We switched to Bayswater and were very glad we did. The walk is much more pleasant (through neigbourhood streets instead of along a busy road) and there are lot's of shops in Bayswater (grocery, souvenir, restaurants, etc...). My new favorite restaurant in London is the Bayswater Arms - good prices, good service, busy but always found somewhere to sit. The fish and chips are great, and the bangers and mash and apple pie and custard are fantastic. Note that the Caring Hotel does not have AC, but since London does not have a summer... The breakfast is pretty basic (cold cereal, toast, fruit, boiled eggs, juice) but it's good and free, and the ladies who work there do a tremendous job. Overall, highly recommend the Caring Hotel. We've stayed in much nicer and way more expensive hotels in London, but considering the price/quality/location/service combination we'd definitely stay at the Caring Hotel again.
