Overall not a bad place. Positives: all staff are friendly and helpful. Room was clean and spacious (for London).

Negatives: Breakfast was fine but extremely basic (no yoghurts or pastries). Bed was uncomfortable and could feel the springs in the bed. The only other negative thing was to do with our neighbours who were very noisy coming in late at night, could hear talking/tv through walls. They also smoked in their room (non smoking room) which drifted in to ours - took 2 complaints to reception before something was said.

Reading trip advisor reviews, I have been struck by the not surprising fact that the hotels for which one pays exorbitant amounts of money get the very best reviews. Most reviewers can't afford the inflated prices that luxury hotels charge. It seems to me that it would be much fairer to judge a hotel on the basis of what you pay. The Caring Hotel is just one example. For a very modest tariff, one gets a brilliant location, services of a friendly, highly competent staff, a clean comfortable room and a more than adequate breakfast. Like most budget London hotels, the Caring has very steep stairs which will be a problem for guests with mobility problems but that's the reality of Paris, Florence and other European cities. What impressed me most about the Caring was that the staff were very concerned when we had a problem trying to locate our daughter and granddaughter who had somehow got lost trying to find the hotel from Heathrow Airport. In other words, the staff really cared. It's hard to put a price on that.

Room Tip: A ground floor room if you don't like climbing steep stairs.

We stayed at Caring Hotel for seven days over the holidays. Our room was for three to four people and was located on the second floor. For the price and location of this hotel, I believe it is an OUTSTANDING value. The rooms are basic, clean, and private.

Our four person room was very large, as large as any American hotel. When you entered our room there was a small foyer that had one door to a newly redecorated bath with shower/tub and a second door that entered into the room. The beds were made every day and new towels provided.

The desk staff and breakfast workers were extremely pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was a very good value given the price of the hotel and the price of food in London. There was enough food and enough variety to be ready for a morning of site seeing. It was food that could be made without cooking, although delicious coffee and plenty of toast is brought out by the staff.

The location was excellent! There is a five to seven minute walk to Paddington Station. A five to 10 minute walk to Hyde park and a five minute walk to grocery, restaurants, pharmacy, etc. It was very safe.

The only negatives were minor. It is not a full service American hotel. So if you are looking for complementary shampoo, fitness center, glitzy lobby, ice machines than this place is not for you. Also, the mattresses are rock hard and very uncomfortable.

Based on some of the reviews, I kept warning my teenagers that we might not be staying at that nice of a hotel - but I could not have been more wrong. We all enjoyed our stay and commented a number of times on what a nice place it was!

Great location a few blocks north Bayswater Road and Kensington Gardens. We had a basement room down the hall from the breakfast room and found it spacious and clean. Private bath was quite adequate. Staff was very accomodating. Breakfast was good basic food to start the morning - cereal, toast, coffee. We could walk across the garden to the Victoria and Albert Museum or down the street to the Tube station. It is not plush but it is very good for the price with a friendly staff and great location.

The only thing to recommend the Carling Hotel is it's location but after that it's disappointment after disappointment.
Our room was very shabby with paint chipped off all the furniture, the upholstery on the chairs was stained and our bed small (double; in 4 star we expected a Queen bed as a minimum). The bathroom had no shampoo, conditioner or body gel, as well as no hand towel.
There was tea and coffee but it came with a white powdered milk substitute, again not what we expected from a 4 Star!
We asked Reception if they could call us a Black Taxi as we wanted to use our credit card and they said no, they only dealt with a company that takes cash. We didn't want to take Pounds out as we were returning home overseas. Really unhelpful.
The breakfast was poor and cold (even the coffee!) and the final straw for us was when they charged us £2 per bag to store our bags for a couple of hours!
Would definitely not stay there again or recommend the Caring Hotel. We felt disappointed and mislead.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review with some helpful feedback for us to improve our service, although it does sound as though we may well need to pull our socks up in a few areas. There should have been a hand towel and UHT milk portions provided in your room. Also sorry to hear that the receptionist was not able to call a black cab for you. We are more used to working with private taxi cabs, because private taxis charge a fixed price whereas Black Cabs charge accroding to distance and also time (including when stuck in traffic) so at least our guests know what the price will be in advance. Private taxi companies do also generally accept credit cards but at a small surcharge, as do black cabs. For the benefit of future guests I will check that the number is available at reception.

I plan to review the coffee provided at breakfast and the condition of furniture in the room. The charge for left luggage at the hotel should have been clearly stated on the hotel's description page, just as it is on our own website and exists due to limited locked storage space. I have just noticed this information is no longer showing on our client partner's booking page following some updates on their site. Thank you for drawing my attention to this - I will try to correct it immediately.

As for the remaining points I would like to gently remind you that our family run hotel is 2 star rated (budget range) according to the amenities offered. When judged in the context of Central London accommodation costs and prices on the whole, this (we hope) should in turn correspond fairly well to the different prices for our different sized rooms. It does sounds a little bit like you might be comparing us to a 4 star amenity rated hotel as opposed to review rated. Nevertheless, I'm sorry that you felt misled. Please rest assured that this was not deliberate but I do understand why you could feel that way. As a gesture of good will, we would be happy to offer you a discount. To redeem it please send an email to me on allan.kalcov@caringhotel.co.uk with details of your Tripadvisor login name, and your reservation number so that we can apply the discount. Best wishes

We spent three nights in a first floor room. It was a nice, average, clean, Paddington hotel. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The bed was good and the bath private (as we booked the room to have the private bathroom rather than shared). Coffee/tea maker but no hair dryer. The walls between the rooms are rather thin and we could hear the TVs of neighbouring rooms but didn't disrupt our sleep at all. Breakfast is self-serve continental, food was good and hit the spot. Breakfast room was nice and bright. This hotel definitely wasn't five star luxury but was tidy and superbly located for having central access to London.

If you are in London to see things, this hotel is all you need. I had a triple - it was in the basement with really no windows to the outside world (there were fogged windows that could be cracked open)...the room could easily accomodate a family of four as it had a fold up twin, a twin, and a double.

Breakfast was just down the hall and was perfect; meats, cheeses, yogurts, etc. You are 5 minutes walk away from two different subway stations and right by Hyde Park.

Room Tip: Requesting a triple that isn't in the basement may give you a better view!
