My wife and I read the reviews after we had booked and felt more than a little anxious. We were very pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff, clean rooms, fresh linen and more than adequate space in the room. Our room had a twin plus a single bed, and a separate vestibule with plenty of hanging space and room for cases and an en suite shower room. The room overlooks the front of the hotel and in spite of there being a pub just opposite, we were not troubled at night by street noise. The full English breakfasts were included in the price and were just what was needed for tackling London sightseeing. The hotel looked after our cases on leaving day as we had to wait several hours for our train, there was no suggestion of any charge. We intend to use the Castleton again next time we return to London.

Room Tip: We can recommend Room 307, but have no experience of any other.

Great location just a block from Paddington station, a short walk to Hyde Park and walkable to museums and restaurants. But rooms and beds were too small and too soft. Room 010 had a one window/door to the shaft which was dark and noisy, and not lockable! Very noisy because I could also hear washer and dryer running all night! The bathroom is tiny, so don't drop the soap! But Room 003 has a nice new adequate size with proper shower booth. So bathroom size depends which room you get. Breakfast is so-so, toast and fried eggs, ham, cereal. But then again, you pay for location.

Room Tip: not room 010 if you can help it

Work booked me this room after an event in central London

I cycled back to the hotel, near Paddington station and checked in. The staff at the counter said they would have to charge me for storing my bike in their luggage room. It's a nice racing bike, not the sort of thing I'd like to leave locked up outside, so I sighed and agreed

I was sharing the room with my work colleague, Hamish. The room was nice and clean. There was an onsuite bathroom. The only problem was the smell of sewage in the bathroom. It wasn't possible to stay in there for more than a few seconds. So we both skipped a shower and went to sleep

In the morning, thankfully the smell had gone. The shower worked fine. The inclusive breakfast was basic but perfectly acceptable

When I left I wasn't charged for the bike so I guess the night porter was misinformed

Would not stay there again

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

We have been in this hotel for one night and were disappointed
The room was far too small as it was the bed
The toilette was pre built like for campers and all that at minus one floor
We did not like it at all
English Breakfast was reasonable but not as much if you like a reasonable coffee or a god apple juice
Even at discount price in my view it does not worth staying there
It is true that it is close to the paddington station which might be useful for some but a problem for others
The reception was sufficient but no electronic keys there yet nor safe in the room
Bed linen was clean and flat screen TV on the wall

Stayed: April 2014
