“London weekend”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

We stayed at 196 for three nights for a weekend break and just booked it through super breaks and didn't know what really to expect , especially a 4 star apartment in London compared to a 3 star , one thousand bed hotel at the same price . Well we will not be using a hotel again, the 196 is directly opposite Liverpool underground and station and four stops on a direct link from Kings Cross so no swapping and changing lines with luggage .
The apartment are lovely and clean and modern with everything that you would need for a stay. It was so nice to have space to walk around and relax when you arrive back after a long day in London and make a coffee etc .
The continental breakfast in the morning delivered to your room is lovely .
The staff are all happy and polite and can't do enough to help you and the reception is manned 24 hours and they even looked after our luggage on the last day so we could get a bit more shopping in before our return home .
Faults ,I can't pick any , it was just a refreshing chance from a hotel
Good points ,everything it was like have your own little piece of London while you are there
Overall excellent for the price you pay compared to the same star hotel and definitely will be using again if we visit London .

Room Tip: One bed apartment

We booked two studio apartments.
Pros First : Location is EXCELLENT: well connected through sub and buses (one scenic bus is 23 you take it from the other side of the Liverpool station), Live area if you come back at night, close Tesco supermarket, very close KFC [HALAL] and the station has shops and services. The Apartment has literally EVERYTHING you have at home. A/C, WiFi worked fine. kitchen is well supplied and comfortable to move around. Iron, iron board and Washer/Dryer were a bliss. Bed was comfortable. Cleaning everyday. No funny smells. Most of the staff are polite or friendly. I can't really judge how noisy it is as our rooms were on the inward side. Breakfast was sufficient and arrives early (a croissant or two small ones + jam + butter + orange juice+ cereals + milk).
Downsides: bathroom ventilation and lighting - but there's mirror outside -, extra bed not comfy, one particular staff member was rude and small hotel sign. But none ruined our vacation.

If you like a great location with the ability of making your own meals and doing your laundry in, then I highly recommend this hotel.

We have just spend 2 nights here. We arrived at 6am from an o/s flight as our room would not be free until the pm the staff allowed us to use the office shower etc and stored our bags while we went sightseeing.
Very easy hotel to find right across the road from Liverpool st station.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. We are in a lovely quiet studio apartment with full kitchen, washing machine/ dryer, heat pump , hair dryer ,& wifi in our room.

Good hotel in a good location, not too noisy. It's walking distance from Liverpool street station so it's easy to jump on the tube and get around london that way. Staff were friendly and the rooms are great. There's a supermarket just down the road about 3 mins walk.

My girlfriend and I stayed in an Executive Studio for a weekend break in the city, and both agreed it was the perfect venue. You have the perfect setting of sleeping slightly away from the busy tourist sites of the west end and the south bank, but can readily access them all within 10 minutes thanks to the proximity of Liverpool Street Station (150 yards). The hotel staff are superb and will gladly care for your bags should you arrive before, or wish to explore the city after checking out. Very safe and secure, and the rooms were spotless. The continental breakfast was great, breads, juices, cereals, fruit and milk. I will definitely be staying here again and would recommend it to anyone looking to take a weekend in London!

Well placed position in the heart of Londons financial district with Liverpool station right across the road. The apartment was clean and had all necessaties. Staff were fantastic, friendly and even printed out maps and suggested restaurant s etc (thanks Anna!) The only disadvantage was the bedroom was quite small but with a spacious lounge attached we found it didnt matter. Highly recommended, would stay there again!

196 Bishopsgate is ideally located for touring London. Since it is in the City of London, right across from a major tube stop, we could do a lot in the morning, come back for a rest in the afternoon, and go out again later, without wasting much of our day in travel time. You might be concerned that this means too much city noise, but we did not have any problem with this perhaps because we did run the air-conditioners. We never heard any noise from other occupants. The 2-bedroom apartment was bigger than we expected. It was wonderful to have our own small kitchen and with Tesco just a few doors down we were able to eat some meals cheaply. There are also several food vendors and small restaurants around Liverpool Street Station (tube/train stop across the street from the hotel) and there were many places to grab a quick and inexpensive meal. We appreciated the small lift in the hotel which helped getting our luggage up and down the floors. The washer/dryer was also much appreciated although we had to learn not to fill it too full. One detail which I found very positive is that the floors are all wood and marble, no carpet, which seems cleaner and less allergenic to me. The staff were really friendly and helpful with any questions we had. A very positive experience overall.

A couple of notes in case prospective visitors have mobility issues: You have to step very high to get in and out of the bathtub/shower, and with the marble flooring in the bathroom, it might be dangerous to step in and out of the tub if you aren't sure of your footing. Also all interior doors are fire-doors, which means they are heavy and must be propped open with something substantial (luggage, for instance) to stay open. This may be due to hotel regulation rather than a design choice of 196 Bishopsgate.
