“Best Budget Hotel Ever”
Reviewed 24 May 2013

Our young school children from the Czech Republic and all our teachers fully enjoyed the hotel. Staff were extremely helpful at all times, the rooms were always clean and very cosy and the hotel was safe and friendly. We especially enjoyed the kitchen facilities and being able to store all of our Tesco food there and make cheap lunches on our budget. We would come back again and again to this hotel. We recommend it for school groups especially and anyone travelling on a budget.

Reading some of the comments that describes Windsor House Hotel as horrible I wonder what people expect from a Bed and Breakfast? I must admit that I haven't tried a lot of budget hotels in Great Britain, but at the price level - with such a good location - I was not disappointed with Windsor House Hotel. I was there recently with a Group of Junior High School students (age 15-16). As a group on a budget tour our alternative was Youth Hostels. So we expected this to be Bed and Breakfast. I think that is also how it is generally described on webpages? From what we read on internet we also expected that some of us had to share showers with more rooms on the same floor. But it turned out that each room had its own little cubicle with toilet, sink and shower. So even though we found these cubicles a bit odd in the beginning, they did the trick, and we had our own shower. So to us the cubicles were a nice surprise. It seems that it is all about expectations. We had small rooms and big rooms. In the big rooms we slept four or five persons. But again we expected it to be like that, since that was the price level we were on. I just checked Euston on the internet since one of the other reviewers moved there. Judged from the pictures that of course seems to be something totally different, but so is the price: Around 85£ pr. person/night without breakfast, we paid around 29 £ including breakfast at Windsor House Hotel. In fact the difference (56£ a day) covers all we spent pr. person on lunch, dinner and experiences each day. Comparing Windsor and Euston seems as comparing pears and apples, it is in the same category but still basicly it is two different things. And at the price level for Windsor we got what we expected: A ok Bed, a (very plain) Breakfast, a Shower at each room (actually more than expected) and clean (but admittedly a bit worn) rooms. But then again we had something more: A very friendly and patient staff.

Disappointed with the 'Big Breakfast'...it just means boiled eggs!!
Our room was very small and smelt damp. The showers were tiny cubicles.
Would not recommend this hotel. There are many other Hotels to choose from on this street.

Room Tip: Lots of other Hotels on this street. Good location near Underground station.

Reading some of the positive comments on this website, I think some people must be crazy!

I actually find it absolutely disgusting that people are actually allowed to charge money for rooms like this!

Confirmed our arrival time, as requested. Arrived dot on time. Room was not ready (and it was quite late in day, not early morning). So went for tea and came back. But this didn't bother me. More like a hostel than a hotel. But, again, not a problem. Everything else was...

The "en-suite bathrooms" are dirty plastic sheds tacked onto the corner of the room and are just a shower over toilet type set-up; you can barely get into them, never mind use them! And they are not clean. Oh, and there's a note on the sink saying that you have to run the cold water tap for 3 minutes first before you can get any hot water! The room was so filthy, with horibble, dirty, stained carpets, I didn't dare take my socks off. Visible pipes covered in dust and dirt. Peeling, dirty walls. Curtains that didn't close properly. No sockets. But, inexplicably, a broken, plug in, oil filled radiator!? The sheets on the bed didn't even cover the whole of the bed, so you half lay on sheets, half on filthy mattress. Urgh. Even just the memory of it makes me shudder. Filthy windows. Place stank of cigarette smoke - especially in reception area. Everything was just dirty and disgusting beyond belief. Its the type of place you feel like you need a good scrub after you've been there. I've stayed in some pretty bad hotels in my time and made the best of it, but there was no way I could have stayed here.

Left pretty much immediately and got a taxi to a different hotel. One that was basic, in a central location and cheap, but also clean and worth paying for.

Please, please, please do not spoil your time in London by staying here.

Places like this should be closed down. Thats how bad it was.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel. Then you'll get a decent room.

Checked in fairly late on night... Tried to make a go of it but it's a cr*p hole.

Staff are friendly and everything is reasonably clean but it's better described as a tired, cramped hostel than a hotel.

We left and went to Euston Premier Inn, instead... Ah, that's better.

We stayed at the Windsor Hotel 5 nights during the Eastern holidays. Service beforehand was excellent and all went well, we really felt ourselves that we were very welcome.

The room was twin room. In the room there was 3 beds, and it was really small. That didn't bother so much, you just go sleep the nights and have shower, we thought. But the shower was really small and we couldn't use it every day. Fortunately there were some common showers that we could use to wash our hair. The worst was that room was suffering mildew and humidity. One night we woke up because there was water dropping from the ceiling straight on the third bed. We put some towels on the bed to cover that. Next day we told to staff about it and they just gave us new towels.

Room on the garden site was quiet but the walls were really thin, and we could here all what our neighbour were talking. It was also disturbing at night.

This was not very nice experience. I'd say please don't go there if you mustn't and especially if you are allergic or sensitive to mildew.

Dear Guests,
we thank you for your feedback and we are happy to note that you felt that our office services were excellent and that you felt welcome. We are located very centrally indeed, a few minutes walk from Earls Court main street and the underground station, on a quiet tree-lined street, with a large , secure garden at the back of the Hotel, and this does ensure peaceful sleeps for our guests.

We note that the triple room allocated to you, at the twin room price, over the Easter period was nonetheless not quite large enough for you (ditto the ensuite shower and toilet ) and can only confirm that these are considered quite spacious as far as normal London standards go.

We are also aware that, unfortunately, our family guests in the room above did overflow the washbasin in their room, and we can only apologize, while we understand that accidents do happen occasionally.
You were very welcome guests, and our sole aim is to ensure that our guests have a happy and comfortable stay.
with our kind regards.,
the Management and Team at the Windsor House Hotel.

My sister and I are from Southampton and decided to turn a one day shopping trip into an over night stay just a few days before coming to London. However we wanted something as cheap as possible without having to stay in a hostel and anyone who knows London knows that cheap is hard to find! I searched various sites and then came across the Windsor House Hotel and it was everything we needed. It was only round the corner from Earls Court tube station and was a twin room with en-suite and breakfast!! And it was cheap!! To be honest we only wanted somewhere cheap to rest our head for the night and so we booked it!!

Upon arriving at the hotel we were too early for check in and the lovely gentleman on the desk said we could leave our luggage there and so we did and went shopping for a few hours before returning to check in. The room had two single beds with a small cabinet with a TV on top separating them. The room had a wardrobe a large chest of drawers and the en-suite. The en-suite was something like you would find in a motorhome and was a little small BUT it all worked fine, was clean and also was private!! The beds were quite comfy which was a bonus! The only downside to the room was that the only plug socket was the one being used by the TV and so we had to take turns in the evening to charge our phones. Also we happened to have some very noisey people above us and at points it sounded like they were going to come through the roof but obviously this wasn't a fault of the hotel.

The room came with breakfast but we didn't have time as we woke up late and had much more of London to see before leaving that afternoon. The hotel also lets you use the kitchen but we didn't need to utilise this but this is a fantastic idea!

All in all our stay was exactly what we wanted - somewhere cheap, clean and private to stay. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and we slept well! I noticed that this seems to be a hotel more popular with overseas visitors but I hope that this wouldn't put off any English visitors - it didn't put us off! For its location and its price you can't go wrong! I would recommend this to anyone who wants a cheap overnight stay in London!! Its not grand or posh - it doesn't claim to be! But its absolutely ideal for a bargain stay - more money then to spend on the attractions and shops of London!!

Thank you for having us and we have already recommended you!
