It looks a crash helmet or something that may fall over. As already mentioned there's a nice ground floor café; unfortunately you have to queue up just to pass through airport style security, in order to access it. However unlike other "government" buildings they have made use of most of the available space, and it may look weird but it does the job.

Thank Philip S

Always thought this was rather an ugly piece of work. But had the opportunity to go inside this time and it really is quite amazing. The interior explains the outside shape. There's really a rather good cafe on the lower ground floor - a staff restaurant open to the public and very reasonably priced compared with this area.

Definitely worth a visit if you're close to it.

One of the intriguing things to see along the Queen's Walk is the egg (or onion) shaped building which presently serves as the City Hall.

This was the first of a series of contemporary shaped buildings, which now occupy the London skyline in this area of the city. Before the 30 St Mary Axe (Gherkin), Shard and other present developments arrived, this was the quirkiest building in the area.

Ten years ago, I thought this building stuck out like a sore thumb against the more traditional skyline. Now, it is one of a number of innovative properties that can be seen in the area and seems right at home.

Just next to the City Hall, you can find the More London building, which has a series of peculiar statues of an oversized Chinese female trying a variety of sports spread around in the public space area next to the building.

You can also find a small, sunken amphitheatre called The Scoop, where performances can regularly be seen and heard during the warmer months of the year.

Nice views of the City Hall building can be found from Towers Bridge if you plan to cross the Thames here.

I would highly recommend going to see the Mayor's question time. Both interesting and absolutely hilarious to see Boris Johnson in action.

This is one of the loveliest buildings along the Thames.
It's a wonderful chance to see an administrative building, which is also easy on the eye and modern.
