Reviewed 11 October 2011

Stayed at the George Hotel over the weekend and was very pleased with the following: 1) location ,location location 2) cleanliness 3) Staff 4) overall value

Yes, the rooms are a bit small, the shared bathroom could be a bit more comfortable and the breakfast can be improved. BUT, the rooms and bathrooms are more than adequate and the breakfast is a good enough start to the day. If you compare the George Hotel to other */** B&Bs in London, you will realize that it is a good place to stay and propably the one to book on my next trip to London.

The location and cleanliness of the George Hotel are the only redeeming features - but these are important in London - so I'd stay there again.

But this is an odd hotel with odd staff. It is indeed within a lovely Grade 2 listed building. It's the facade that's listed as there is a 1950/60s extension to the rear, but the staff use the list status as an 'excuse' for narrow staircases and lack of lift, inadequate soundproofing from the Tube trains below (it isn't common in London to hear deep level Tube lines from basements). Some of the basement rooms smell of damp or frying in the mornings.

The shared bathrooms must have been refitted recently and are ok. They are rather small with little room to move between the toilet and shower - which would have been better in separate rooms as there is no hand basin for use with the toilet. They are often dirty and messy (only cleaned once a day) from other guest's bad manners in a shared bathroom.

The breakfast is of very poor quality, and the hotel would do better not bothering and reduce the nightly charge, as they can't seat everyone within the limited service window, and there are many good places within two mins.

The TV reception is bad and only a few channels work. The rooms have many signs (5/6) telling you what not to do. The UHT milk in my room was over a year past it's use-by-date.

Most of the staff are friendly and try hard. Unfortunately, they seem to be under-trained and given stock answers to repeat to guests - some of which are just wrong. Most of them are from eastern-Europe and still treat customers with distain.

Room Tip: ask for the basement

We stayed three nights and found the accommodation adequate. The location is great - close to British Museum, Tube etc. Our room was basic and the en suite quite small but not a problem. Breakfast was very good.

Excellent location few mins walk from Kings cross station, lovely quiet area. We arrived in London on the 28/09/11(weather very hot hot hot!!) we had 2 nights at The George, a very clean hotel bed comfy also pillows, nice white sheets, we had a shower in our room had to share the bathroom for the toilet but it was fine very clean, all facilities in roomT.v etc. Great hotel would recommend it. Breakfast full english, toast, cereals all branded tea and coffee, they cook you more if you are still hungry!! very friendly helpful staff. We stayed in Room 207 which is situated at the rear but dont think it makes alot of difference as its a very quiet area. Who cares if the rooms are small you arent there to stay in the room all day!! Great Tapas bar just seconds walk from hotel, give it ago. just 2 stops on the tube to Camden Market fantastic place and atmosphere. ENJOY LONDON, we did :)

Room Tip: great location at rear of building...Room 207

My husband and I had the double with shared bath on the 3rd floor(though we had to go up 4 flights of stairs!!). The room was small with enough storage and very quiet. Even though we shared the shower and toilet we never had to wait for either one. The shower did leak a bit onto the floor. The bed seemed a little bigger than a standard double and was comfortable; tv worked fine. No tissues or facecloths are provided so if you stay there bring them.
The breakfast was the same every day; juices, cereal, coffee or tea(I recommend getting the pot of tea), white or brown toast, eggs anyway you want, bacon or sausage, beans and tomatoes. The sausage was good and the eggs fine and you can have as much as you want.
This hotel was about three blocks from the Russel Square tube station so a great location for getting around London. We paid about 70 pounds per night so not a bad deal for London.

Room Tip: From what we saw in the hotel, the shared shower and toilet on the 3rd floor where we were were some...

The room I got is old and small, the furniture is pretty old. I will recommend to replace them with newer ones. - I reserved a single room without toilet and shower, so I had to share them with other guests. - The floor is wooden so you will hear a cracking noise each time anyone walks. - Do not know if all the rooms are in the same situation than the one I got, but I could hear everything from the other rooms (oh course, those around mine). The hotel has a nice location, the room rates are ok, but is pretty old and kind of noisy. Nevertheless, I would return to it or any other in the same area.
Young ladies at the receptions helped me were really helpful. Girls serving breakfast not very communicative but efficient. Good English breakfast. They coul add some fruit.
Excellent location.
The students in the opposite building were very noisyduring the night in that period. Don't know in the rest of the year. I'll go back to THE GEORGE HOTEL.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back to avoid noise . Ask better 2nd floor

This is in an excellent location for all tourists. Surprisingly quiet just yards away from busy Euston Rd. Very clean and comfortable with a friendly and helpful reception. Good facilities at a very reasonable price for the location. We will be more than happy to return for our annual London visit. Very glad it was recommended by a friend and we have changed from our usual accommodation.

Room Tip: Our room was on the ground floor with no problems but we heard that the basement rooms were noisy bu...
