“you get what you pay for?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2014

The Arriva is handy for Kings Cross and thats its most redeeming quality, that and the fact that the staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel stuck me as clean but certainly not spotless and not as clean as I would have liked. It needs some money spending on the decor and someone with a steady hand to go round the edges . The average 10yr old could decorate better. We had a room at the back of the hotel over-looking mud ... perhaps they could do something with the mud and weed patch to the back of the hotel?

The shower room was tiny, but had seen better days the manufactures stickers were still on the basin and pedestal which was old.. the taps need new washers and a good clean round the bottom. Most of the floor tiles were cracked, but seem to have been filled with grout so were probably sealed however the shower was grim. There was plenty of hot water and the shower had an excellent flow.

The breakfast room was located downstairs and there was an unpleasant and indescribable smell in the hall outside the room. Continental breakfast consisted of choice of cocoa pops or cornflakes, brown or white bread for toast, lots of jams and butter, instant coffee (yuck), yogurts and some questionable looking cheese and ham.

All in all, next time I book a travelodge, it will be worth the extra money.

Location is fine, but hotel is more hostel than hotel. We complained first room smelled of smoke and had dirty sheets, second room was marginally better. Cheap wood open wardrobe, none locking loo door, one socket, dirty carpet, must have been painted by a five year old. We are not fussy people and use a hotel just to sleep in, but this cost well over £120 a night, which is same as chain hotels in the area. If we had paid say £60 id have said ok. Breakfast was in a room too small, although it was clean and nice meats and cheeses. Milk for cereal was warm must not have been in a fridge for hours,
This is my first bad review of anywhere, but it needs to be said.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere for same price.

Booked this hotel for its location which was it's only redeeming point. The room was small, it was really run down, the bed was too small and uncomfortable, the carpet looked like it had never been cleaned, no side tables, very poor light above the bed, the bathroom was so small - hardly enough room for 1 person, the curtains were hanging off the railings, the window wouldn't stay up when we tried to open it as the room was stuffy and there was no air conditioning. Breakfast was in the basement which was hot and stuffy and the same everyday.

Be warned - the online pictures of this hotel certainly don't represent what you get!

On arrival we were a bit dismayed by the run-down appearance of the exterior - a feeling not helped by the dingy reception area, which had clearly seen better days. Room was tiny and "spartan", shall we say politely. No frills like pictures for example, but strangely, an empty and very noisy fridge! There was space to hang coats but nowhere to put a suitcase of any size. The bed was comfortable and clean, however, and we had a quiet night's sleep, as the room was at the back of the hotel.

The bijou ensuite was just about adequate, (no room to swing cats certainly) but the towels need to be replaced for newer models! The plug in the sink didn't work, meaning that you had to wash under a running tap - quite hard for shaving!

Breakfast was disappointing and the room was extremely crowded. We had to clear our own table before we could sit down. There was little choice and the coffee was instant!

All in all, this hotel is just a small step above a backpackers in our opinion, and consequently overpriced. We were lucky that we only needed to stay for one night.

Room was v small with dirty flooring and walls. Staff helpful. Very small shower room. Quite noisy so get a room at back which is less so. Could stand it for one night as v close to Kings X. Wouldn't stay again though - too depressing!

we have just spent two nights (myself, my daughter & grandaughter) in this "hotel" not great!! it is idealy situated, but i,m afraid that is its only good point. the triple room was very very basic, no headboards, or bedside lights! my single bed was pushed against a door with a large pipe sticking out from it!! next to a radiator which couldnt be turned down, we were in a basement room with views looking up at the pavement above, to be fair the bedding was clean, or we wouldn,t have stayed, the towels should have been replaced years ago! to be fair, the shower was very powerful & we did laugh at some of the furnishings, the top came off the bedside cupboard leaving big nails sticking out. dont think we would stay here again, but if a good facelift was done, it would make the world of difference.

Spent 4 nights in Arriva hotel, it is cheap in London, it means anywhere else it is an expensive place... Rooms are small, one morning didn't have hot water to take shower. Breakfast was the same every morning (continental type), but the place was so small that in peak we had to wait to sit down and always had to share table. Staff wasn't really running around to clean up tables for the next customer.
Room was quiet but so hot, couldn't really sleep well, and it is not possible to open any window.
Reception staff was always nice and helpful.
