We are an American family living in Europe. We needed a hotel room for the 4 of us. This hotel offers a queen bed and a pull out couch for the kids. They had the pull out ready for us when we arrived which was nice. The hotel is close to the Tower Bridge Underground Station. Also, right outside the hotel is Borough Market which is an amazing open air market with meats, cheeses, spices, bakery items, tea stands and more. Close to the hotel is a Starbucks, Pret A Manger and many restaurants. I got a pretty good price using Expedias site where you pick the area and star rating and they get you the hotel for a good price. The only con was the air didnt seem to work very well in the room. Luckily the windows opened so that helped.

A great modern hotel, that was very clean and bright.
The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Our family room was large, with a separate loo and en suite. The bed large and comfortable.
The only negative was the poor air conditioning, our room was very hot, and a very damp and musty smelling shower cubicle, the bathroom and shower were both very clean.
A great buffet breakfast with lots of choice for everyone.
We would defiantly stay here again, a great central location, close to London Bridge Station.

Hard bed, ineffective temperature control and a fusty smelling bathroom lead to a two star review. Polite staff and a good breakfast pull up from one star.

First time in Novotel and unfortunately will be the last.

We spent a weekend at this modern Novotel just across the river on south bank .The rooms are quite large and airconditioned and well insulated from outside noise. We were round the corner overlooking a quiet street which was even better. Breakfast on each day was an excellent buffet with even a pancake machine which I have not seen before! Free Wi-Fi and computer terminals are provided in the large reception area. The bar is light and airy and the nut selection a real bargain at £1.20. An easy walk to a number of tube stations -we used London Bridge but across the bridge to Cannon Street is just as easy. We stayed using the Tesco scheme and checkin was very efficient. Overall a pleasant stay especially by London standards.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the side street are quieter

My second stay at this hotel and again happy with the choice. Location is not right in the heart of the city though it is in a great location for a good Thames walk along the foreshore, a nice walk to the London Eye and further on to Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Opposite way reaches London Bridge and Tower Bridge so overall, a good general location.

My email contact with the hotel was fantastic and all needs were met which was great when arriving after a 24hour trip from Aus well before standard check in. Good breakfast selection and comfortable bed which was great. I should have taken advantage of a better pillow as the one I had was a little soft however all up a nice night.

Wifi service was strong in my room which helped with being away for work.

Will be back again next year!

Our stay at Novotel in Southwark was, in general, a pretty good experience. Both our room and the hotel itself were modern, clean and tidy. The price was reasonable compared to other similar hotels in the area. And breakfast was good - my friend couldn’t get enough of the sausages.

However, the weekend was let down by one bad experience right at the start of our stay.

We had booked a room for 3 adults, which included a double bed and a convertible sofa bed. When we arrived we had kind of expected the sofa bed to be made. It wasn’t. Nor was there anything to make the bed ourselves. We phoned the guy at reception expecting this to be resolved quite easily, but we were a bit surprised when he told us they would usually charge for the extra bed to be made in a room like this.

This seems a bit odd to me. When you book and pay for 3 adults, surely the room should accommodate for that? At no point during the booking process was there any mention of there being, or the ability to add extra charges for the sofa bed. Does Novotel seriously expect 3 adults to share a double bed? What kind of people did they think we were?!

In the end, the guy said he wouldn’t charge us and sent someone up to make the bed shortly after. But what is still slightly frustrating is the way he made it seem as though he was somehow doing us a favour by not charging for the extra bed, when in my opinion it shouldn’t have even been suggested. When we phoned reception we were expecting something more along the lines of an apology, as opposed to the hassle we actually got.

It’s a real shame this happened. It slightly spoiled what would have otherwise been a pretty perfect stay in a good hotel. Would we stay again? Not sure. The whole situation would probably make us think twice about it.

And one other thing - not a complaint, more a word of warning: the frosted glass between the shower room and the bedroom isn’t quite as opaque as you might like. So if you’re anything other than a couple, best work on that beach body before staying as when showering, you do end up looking like the opening titles to a James Bond movie to those sat in the bedroom.
