“Good location for the sights”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

This is a very modern hotel in Westminster. It is an easy walk to Westminster Abbey, Churchill War Room, 10 Downing and The Eye. There is a buffet breakfast which was very good. There is also a Bar/Lounge on site that provides a great "recovery area" after a long day of sightseeing. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only problem I found was the lack of restaurants within walking distance. We did eat at a Pub and an Italian restaurant that was recommended by the hotel.

Being a loyal Hilton customer, I have booked my entire London accommodation with this hotel. Research conducted prior to the trip indicated that the location is close to Big Ben and I booked.

Location: Great walking distance to major attractions such as Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, etc. It is also situated in a quiet office neighborhood and that helped the sleep a bit.
Surroundings: There is a major construction sire next door. Sight is not that great. I do see trucks getting in and out and have to be extra careful walking out of the hotel. There were some days where the road was sealed off and was not very convenient. Restaurants is an issue around here as there are not an awfully lot of choices except the hotel restaurant and/or one or two around the corner. Dinner is especially scarce.
Price: Not the cheapest.
Rooms: I was upgraded to the executive room and I was astonished to see the size of the room. Having been to many Doubletrees and Hiltons around the world, this is probably the smallest room I have ever seen. The executive room is tiny.
Water: I was given two bottles of water when checking in and that was it. When I asked if I will get new bottles the next day, the answer was no. That is also something new for an hhonors member who has been around the world.
Wifi: Extremely slow and very often drops. I could not even twit a single message at times.
Beds: They were comfortable and sheets are clean.
Executive lounge: small and crowded during breakfasts and tea-breaks. Choice of food not fantastic and fridge was locked away after 10! Gosh!

Overall: Not fantastic but not bad either. For a short stay just to get to somewhere nearby, go ahead. Otherwise, keep looking.

Dear Ernest148,

Thank you for your review of your recent visit to the DoubleTree Westminster. We appreciate you taking the time to provide detailed feedback regarding your stay, and are pleased to see that you generally had an enjoyable visit and found our location suitable to your needs. We have often been described as an oasis of calm in London, as you get all the benefits of a Central London hotel without the hustle and bustle of the city that usually accompanies it.

I am sorry that you were inconvenienced by the building works in the local area. This is regrettably beyond our control; however, as a member of our Hilton Honors program you can specify and save your room preferences to your HHonors profile, and we will endeavour to accommodate you on the unaffected side of the building for future stays whilst the works are on-going. Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience.

I am also sorry to see that the Wi-Fi was poor during your visit. We have recently had some challenges with our signalling router; however, we have been able to identify and isolate the fault, and are working on a long-term resolution to the issue. Thank you for your patience whilst this is being actioned.

I have noted your comments on the size of our rooms. This is a common feature with most London properties due to space constraints, however please be assured that all our rooms have been designed to offer our guests a comfortable stay with all the facilities you may expect from a 4-star property, making maximum use of the limited space available in a prime city centre location.

Thank you once again for your review. It is always disappointing to learn of a less than perfect stay, but I would like to thank you for highlighting the parts that you did enjoy, and hope to welcome you back to the DoubleTree Westminster in future for a fully enjoyable stay.

Kind regards,

Dola O

We had a great stay here, and in general the hotel was excellent, but let down slightly by a couple of things. 1) The bar was lovely, with helpful staff and great food and drink, but it was too cold with the air conditioning set too high. 2) The room was clean and nicely decorated with great shower, but the bed was a little too hard and the air conditioning again very cold and noisy. 3) Breakfast was spectacular with a huge range and great coffee. We loved our breakfasts, but to nit pick, a lot of the plates were not as clean as they should be. 4) The hotel was well located, and despite being very central was still in a quiet area. It was only about a 5 minute walk to Pimlico tube station.

Have stayed a number of times in recent works due to work.
Hotel is in a great location not far from Westminster tube, which is a nice walk in the mornings.

Quality of rooms, facilities is usual for a Hilton of this standard, although the Wifi in the room was a bit unstable and often a low/slow connection speed. Beds are comfy, rooms quiet.
Staff are friendly and helpful, but would expect nothing less. The food at dinner in the restaurant was excellent.

My biggest grumble - Isn't the point of an "Executive Lounge" to be some sort of sanctuary and retreat from the masses for your hard working businessman? Not to let in so many people you cant get a seat and the complimentary nibbles and drinks counter looks like aid has just arrived for refugees! Its also not that impressive as an "Executive Lounge", would have expected it to be on the top floor, with excellent views, rather than tucked away on the 1st floor with no windows at all!. This was a big disappointment.

On arrival we mentioned that it was a birthday celebration for my wife and we given an upgraded room. The staff were very considerate and when we returned after our day out there was a birthday card and a large tin of cookies waiting for my wife. This was a very pleasant surprise. The room was very comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. A very nice hotel which we will definitely return to.

This hotel is very modern and in a great location if walking to London attractions. The room was a lot smaller than I expected, but it was adequate for a one night stay. The bathroom was also small with only a shower. We had a room on the 14th floor which did not have much of a view as there are tall buildings surrounding the hotel.

The fitness center is very nice. It is separate into three different sections, has several treadmills, elliptical, bicycles and it even has two rowing machines. There are several weight machines as well as free weights.

The executive lounge was very nice and offered nice choices for the evening and in the morning for breakfast. Although food is only available in the evening between 5:30-7:30 pm, the lounge is open 24hrs (key access) with drinks available all the time.

The hotel charges for local calls, but the concierge desk was kind enough to dial the number of the car company to confirm our transportation pick up.

This is a standard mid range business type hotel but manages to be a bit better than average with some added value extras. The rooms are a bit on the small side but good for central london. There's a mac computer in your room which doubles up as a tv, and very nice toiletries from Crabtree and Evelyn. You get a cookie when you check in, the breakfast buffet is so big it includes a choice of porridge made with water or porridge made with milk. My only thing is that although it's very central and only 5-10 minutes walk to Westminster, it is not a very residential area so there aren't very many restaurants nearby for dinner.
