“Superbly located next to Tate Modern, reasonably priced, great service”
Reviewed 12 June 2012

We booked for the first time at the Premier Inn chain of hotel and this has been a very pleasant surprise. The price we got from Booking for a family room (4) was bellow 200$ per night which for central London is very good. The room was modern, smallish, very clean and perfectly noise insulated. The staff was VERY friendly and professional and made us feel really welcomed. As we were here 2 days during the first week of June, a special offer was on - kids under 16 have eat for free for breakfast. I don't remember the duration of this offer. The breakfast buffet was also great, with nice full english breakfast and FRESH fruits, with great staff and service. Location was for us perfect, a 5 minutes walk from the Tate Modern and from South Bank, in a quieter area of the City. Perfect price / value ratio!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write us a review.
We are glad you enjoyed the cleanliness of our hotel and found the room to be without noise pollution as you have rightly said we are located in a more peaceful area of London. We do aim to have a high standard of customer service and are pleased you have rated this highly. You will be happy to know that children under 16 can eat breakfast for free all the time and this is not a temporary offer.
We look forward to welcoming you back into our hotel some time soon.

Kind regards,

Stayed here for 1 night during half term. Room comfortably accomodated the 4 of us. Room was spotless and all the furnishings looked quite new. Very quiet location. Had no noise from the road, despite only being on the first floor. Very reasonably priced for a room that accomodates a family of 4. Buffet breakfast was good, and the kids eat for free. Good location a 5 minute walk from the tate modern and the river.

Stumbled across this hotel on Internet as the competitor budget hotel in Covent Garden was fully booked.......the best stumble ever! We will stay here next time in London. What a find. The location was fabulous. Southwark is steeped in history and is undergoing a huge sympathetic regeneration programme around the hotel including bars, restaurants and numerous oldie worlde pubs etc. We drove up to London on the Saturday morning and were able to park in the limited parking area available which was a plus. I have not known such friendly staff who greeted us They all seemed to love their job and this shone through in the way we were dealt with from booking in to our departure. The room was on the ground floor which I thought might be noisy at night but it wan't - but we crashed out at about 10pm after a full day sight seeing so didn't hear anything anyway.
I was slightly aghast when charged £65 for family ticket on the bus tour but actually got a lot of use out of it as it lasts for 24 hours and included a boat trip as well so able to use it on the Sunday as well. We will without question use this Premier Inn again and maybe next time just the two of us!!!

Stayed here for an overnight work trip but wished I could have had longer - hotel was in a great location just a few steps away from The Golden Hinde, Southwark Cathedral and Borough Market. There are a few cafes and restaurants situated in the surrounding area and a great view over the River Thames. They were filming something in this area when I stayed and it really felt like you had stepped back in time, I loved it! Few minutes walk through the nice setting, got you to the nearest tube station so perfect if you are looking to travel across the city too.

The hotel itself was what I expected from a premier inn, I have stayed in slightly nicer hotels within the chain, with larger rooms but it does what it says on the tin, and is definitely worth it if you are on a budget.

The staff on reception were very helpful in giving me direction to the tube as the only thing that really lets the hotel down is the information on the general Premier Inn website - it says 5 minutes from the nearest tube station but doesnt give you proper directions. Its 5 minutes if you cut through a little lane next to Borough Market but because Id never been here I didnt know this and spent about 25 minutes just searching for the right place. When I eventually found it I asked the lady at reception which way I should have come and she gave me really detailed directions so that I easily found it on the way back. If you arent familiar with the city though then you might come a bit unstuck like me on the way there!!

Room Tip: Due to its location there might be rooms that look over the River Thames - I didnt have one but its...

Great Location to Cannon Street and London Bridge and quiet, but showing signs of wear. Local restaurants and pub where breakfast is served. If you just want to use as a base and sleep it's good.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms at the front as restaurants & pub stay open late

When I arrived there were some roadworks taking place outside, so it looked a bit messy. But hey, this is London! The greeting at reception was first class, and the lady very friendly and helpful - explaining everything I needed to know. So, thank you for that.
Yes, this is another Premier Inn, but the room is relatively spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed was lovely as were the pillows. The location is in a quiet street, so there is no nighttime noise disturbance of any kind.
This hotel is situated in Southwark, which is a brilliant location. Its spitting distance to the river, and 5 minutes to the New Tate and the wobbly bridge over to St Pauls. It is also 5 minutes to Borough Market, which is a great area for restaurants and pubs/bars. I would recommend the Market Porter for great real ales.
There is a pub next door where they serve breakfast - at an extra charge. But I did not sample this.
If I recall a downside of this Premier Inn is that you have to pay extra for the internet - this is something that all hotels need to stop charging for.
Also when I was there the drinks machine was not working - which would not be a problem if the hotel provided complimentary bottled water in the rooms.
I think I paid around £180 a night here. Decent hotels in London have got stupidly expensive very quickly.

First time I stayed at a Premier Inn and won't be my last. Despite being fully booked and really busy over the Jubilee weekend the staff were brilliantly friendly, with 5 star service. The hotel is just a 5 min walk from the underground, through an area of apartments, mainly student. Also a nice walk to St Paul's via the millennium bridge so well located. Room was very clean and quiet and very comfortable- basic but not mean. Breakfast was well worth it, and loads of food despite being over booked and a bit of a queue.
