“Surprisingly Nice Stay for a Holiday Inn”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2014

This is a great find. The hotel is indeed in a terrific location, a serious ten steps from Camden Market, which is itself a great treat in the summer.

The most important things for me in a hotel are the internet, bed, and shower (water pressure). The internet is not bad, but you have to register yourself in the lobby (right now it's free for everyone because they are changing their provider -- but I believe they will charge for internet when it's done -- which is something I will not stand behind. IHF Reward Members will get their internet for free, however).

The beds are fine. Nothing to write home about, but they are clean and I appreciated the selection of pillows.

The shower has surprisingly good water pressure. The washroom and the tub are both new and I found everything in the room to have a clean feel. It has been updated very recently.

The lobby and lounge are nice places to hang out. The people behind the counter do NOT know how to make a proper coffee, though, so beware. Starbucks and its brand notwithstanding, they will drown your coffee in water if you ask for an Americano. It is expensive to drink here (I had a Boddington's on tap) so you're better exploring the environs anyway.

The hotel elevator is very slow. They have two.

All in all, I would recommend staying as one of the cheaper options to the other hotels in the area. I spent around three nights here.

We'll try not to feel offended by being a "cheaper option" because we feel we're well worth it. Neither will we be crossed as a brand since we did manage to surprise you, somehow ...

In short, we have a very good reputation for very comfy beds (we don't buy lightly and our brand standards are anyway stringent, rightly so), good water pressure, a fabulous Open Lobby (the new Holiday Inn concept) we opened just over a year ago, lovely and welcoming Camdeners and very honestly priced menus. Of course, I'm just reading from others' reviews here :-)

Now I just hope Starbucks won't take it against you because their brand standards are even more stringent, and we have no room for creativity here. Yet we always try to accommodate everyone's tastes; we like to please you see, and intend to give YOU what WE would like others to give us. Just love, eventually.

And the very timely good news. We are finally and happily going through a COMPLETE WiFi upgrade TODAY. By the end of the day we should be connected fully to our fiber optic and a 100Mb feed! Not bad hey? And yes, IHG Reward club members will ALL have their FREE connection, but not only ...

Yet you'll have to come back to see the newest development. We shall look forward to that and rest assured we'll make it extra special. In true Camdeners' style!

Thank you.

Eddy and the happy lot here, the Camdeners

Stayed here for one night when the band my husband works for played the Electric Ballroom. Staff were polite and helpful, the room was quiet, comfortable and clean and the location was perfect - so all in all a very successful stay.

You are literally a 2 minute walk from both the market and Camden High Street but I certainly didn't notice any noise.

It's a bit pricey for a Holiday Inn, but I suppose you expect that with it being in London (one of the most ludicrously overpriced cities on Earth!)

Overall, I'd definitely recommend it to other travellers.

Every (good) things come with a price ... and being so central (and so nice), we tend to think we're good value for money actually. Don't you?

Thank you so much for your short and very sweet review.

Once you're over the sticker shock of staying at any London hotel anywhere, then this place will settle in as a good value. It's simple, but clean and high-functioning. The ridiculous added extra breakfast cost (which we did not try, so I can't speak to that) was offset by the fact that there is a Starbucks in the lobby. We could still go down for our morning espresso and pick up a muffin or whatever -- at a fraction of the breakfast cost. Most places for our family of four are a little cramped, and this was no exception (we don't 'want to pay for 2 rooms). The best feature of the hotel, however, is the location. Right out the door is Camden Lock, all the great little walking streets, shops, food vendors, etc. - and a Tube stop nearby. So really, the best of hip London is right out the door, and every other kind of London, mere minutes away. Helpful staff made the airport transfer easy. We would return - though next time we'd try and get best possible price as soon as we firm up our London plans.

Excellent, it shows that our Open Lobby really works for everyone. Thank you.

Although our breakfast is well worth a try: full buffet, eat-as-much-as-you-can basis, fresh baguettes and pancakes, buttery croissants, home-made smoothie of the day ... and children under 13 EAT for FREE. But we understand and this is why we also have Starbucks on offer with snacks. And this one is open 24hr, 7 days a week. Quite practical really!

Now give us a little tinkle and we'll try to make our very best offer, yet! That's a Camdener's promise.

Thank you for your lovely comment.

Lovely hotel with nice party room overlooking the canal and Camden Market? Staff very attentive and the meal was excellent? A.very good time was had by all both young and old. Parking was easy outside the hotel although they do have a car park this is not easy to book when the hotel is busy.

Hi Valerie H,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a cracking review of our Glasshouse overlooking the famous Camden Lock & Canal for your recent celebrations.

Our car park as you mentioned is operated on a first come first served basis. We are thrilled everyone "young and old" had a fabulous time and do hope you will be back someday for another celebration.

Kind Regards

We had a night stay here with our two teens, as we have visited this area several times and love it. Hotel is located about 5 mins walk from tube, next to the lock. Staff very efficient on check in and out, hotel very clean and our room was spacious for four, with two double beds, only minor gripe is that we didn't have a view to wake up to, only a wall! Not really a problem though as we only used hotel as a base. Would definitely go again. Love the area for its diversity and canal boat trips/walks etc, the markets are great vibe, but very busy at a weekend. We weren't troubled with outside noise in room 427. (maybe because we were shattered from walking miles!) there are bars and restaurants all around the area, so a bit of late night noise is inevitable.

We stayed at this hotel for more than a week in a room overlooking canal and one of the camden markets. Pretty view but there was a bit of noise issue especially during the weekend, the pub across had loud music way pass 1am. The hotel is kind enough to provide ear plugs but unfortunately I am not used to sleeping with plug in my ear. The amenities in the hotel are generally good, bathroom a bit tired though and not 100% spotless (some mold around bathtub and shower curtain does not "smell" clean). The lobby printer broke down while we were there (not fixed for a few days). Fortunately the front desk was kind enough to print all our reservation confirmation and passes.

Staff at dining area are very attentive and breakfast is very good with lots of selections but quite expensive, £13+. All staff in the hotel are very helpful but a few of them are not very fluent in English, there were one or two occasions at the front desk we had to explain ourselves a few times before they understood. The managers are all great though in helping us answering questions.

Camden Town is an interesting neighborhood, vibrant and touristy during day time but I don't feel too safe to walk alone at night, especially during weekends. When we were there, bumped into a few drunken individuals (not even dark yet) at hotel nearby street and around Camden town tube station, also usually the next morning, saw broken glass bottles around the area.

Overall, the service provided by the staff compensated the "not so perfect" things in and around the hotel.

Room Tip: room facing canal has great view but you have to be aware of the potential noise issue.

Thank you! That's a very honest and heartfelt review.

Please rest assured that Camden Town is definitely fun DAY and NIGHT. Attitude free, it is also safe to walk around any time. However you might as well join the party!

Little teething issues are being fixed as we speak. Nothing to be proud of and usually good at catching those out. Sorry! As for our Camdeners' English it comes as a surprise but we'll keep our ears peeled. Still happy they actually make your stay ...

Thank you! We hope you made it nicely across the Pond and we shall look forward to seeing you in a not-so distant future.

Eddy & your Camden lot, the hearty Camdeners!

I stayed here for a multi-day company business function. While I travel to London often, I had never spent time in or around Camden Lock. What a cool place! Plenty of unique scenery, close to Regents Park (gorgeous!) and wide variety of pubs/restaurants close to the property. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Aim for one along the canal - the views are beautiful.
