“Great chips at the bar!”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

Not stayed at the hotel, just wandered down after work for a pint and some nibbles - their thrice cooked chips are DELISH, really recommend - however don't bother with the filo 'king' prawns, its pappy frozen rubbish. But the CHIPS - yum!

Stayed July 2014, travelled with friends

Have just had a weekend at The Chamberlain and found no fault at all. Check in was quick and efficient. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable.
All staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast in a lovely dining room. Staff gave us good advice re London buses and generally getting about.
Located very well about 3 mins walk from Aldgate and Tower Hill tube stations.
Will definitely recommend to people and use again.

CONS: So, I am so glad my boyfriend and I only booked to stay at this hotel for two nights because it was more than enough. We arrived on the early afternoon of 7/21/14 and once entering we were not greeted. The lady in the front desk didn't even offer a smile. This is the last thing anyone needs or deserves after traveling such long hours to get here. The elevator was also out of service and when traveling with heavy luggage this is seriously a true inconvenience like it was for us. The few times I called the front desk or walked by the lobby, staff was unfriendly and looked miserable. Were they trained to be rude? If so, Management definitely needs some work if they expect to make heavy business because I would never stay here again. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS. I don't know of anyone who goes on vacation and desires rude customer service. The food was edible nothing really special. Go to Mary Jane's next door and you'll get your money's worth. The venue is beautiful, service is great, and their food is delicious and isn't overpriced like The Chamberlain's. Lastly, on our final day there the fire alarm went off around 8am putting my boyfriend and I into a panic. I immediately called the front desk and we were told to go to the lobby. We quickly got dressed and on our way to the staircase a staff member impolitely told us that all is well and to go back to our rooms. Like how annoying was that?! We were so happy that was our last day there! The Chamberlain Hotel made our London experience an unpleasant one and it didn't help that London was just as congested, busy, and as loud as my home in NY.

PROS: Rooms are clean and it is close to the top touristic sites. The River Bus for us was the best way for getting around London.

Room Tip: Room was very comfortable, clean, and had all the amenities we needed. Wifi service was great.

We already knew the Chamberlain from former stays in London. The Hotel is on a quiet place, near to Tower of London. The service was excellent an the Rooms very confortable and clean. There was not a lot of noise coming from the outside, but inside you hear your neighbours. WIFI is complimentary, just ask for it in the reception.
The breakfast was really great, and good Quality.
We had a great stay at the Chamberlain Hotel, and I can recommend it.

I will be as fair and honest as possible on this review.

Location: This part is great! everything is very close and you can pretty much just take one of the many choices near by Thames River. We chose the Thames Clippers and got to see everything we came to see. You just get off at every stop and walk to the sight you want to see and go back and ride to the next stop and so on...do get the all day pass very worth it. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the London Tower and the Tower bridge. There are many good restaurants around the hotel, Mary Jane's is next door and is AMAZING!!!!

The Hotel and staff : THE GOOD: The hotel and rooms are very clean. The room had 2 safes which was was great!. A/C Contributed to a good night sleep, specially because it was well in the high 80's outside. The showers had good pressure so no complaints on that. The rooms are just very well put together, clean and they have a small fridge, snacks with tea and coffee maker, a hair dryer and just overall everything you expect from a good hotel in a big city.

Now the BAD: I hate doing this but i have to, this hotel has SOOO Much potential and the little things are not allowing them to be even better.

THE LADY IN THE FRONT DESK NEEDS to SMILE, GREET the tenants, be more FRIENDLY!. If she hates her job then she should quit! or go to another place. This hotel needs someone friendly that is willing to do their job better. Make tenants feel at home. Be more attentive. She always had this super serious attitude even when we called for room service for a meal she had an inappropriate attitude. Like if she was going to pay for the meal that were were ordering or if the meal was free and we were asking for seconds. She did not try to help us in any other way other than checking in and checking out! How about let us know where our room was or have someone walk us to it. No we were wondering around on the second floor until a nice young lady walked us to it. SHE CAN MAKE THINGS BETTER by just smiling, she is a pretty lady, how about you be more friendly! and see how you can help people get around and seeing the sights! why we had to ask someone else next door for some tips.

THE ELEVATOR: So when we booked we did know that some people said in other reviews that it was out service and later on another later review suggested that it was back in service. We booked thinking "ehh maybe they fixed it and we will have a good experience". Turns out we get there and after MONTHS the "business elevator" or "front elevator" it's "not working". Well they told us with all of our luggage that it didn't work. We had to use the service elevator. Why the same night as we are coming back sightseeing we see the staff and some tenant older lady come out of there!!!! "so it WAS working this whole time!!! and we had to go around pushing this annoying doors to get to our rooms.

It gets better! The last morning july 23! at around 8 am. a fire alarm goes off...ok that could happen to any hotel. We call downstairs and they tell us that we need to get downstairs quickly! As we going downstairs some older lady from the staff tells us everything is ok with an attitude as if "we are bothering her!" How about we are being bothered by them not calling us at 8 am on our vacation to tell us it's a false alarm. No instead they insisted we went to the lobby! FOR NO REASON!

Also there was another 2 guys that were at the front desk later that night and they weren't bad, at least they greeted us but we didn't have to actually deal with them so i can't say much about them. Maybe they should be in the day shift!

There was a young men that came everyday to offer us free water, he was nice, courteous, and always with a great attitude! He was possibly the nicest guy in there. Also another young woman that i guess is the head of house keeping there.

Food: It was tasted OK.. we ordered dinner BUT it was Overpriced! 2 sandwiches 4 bottles of water and some desserts 43 pounds! In Mary Jane's next door we would've had a feast with that amount!... just saying!

Overall only book this hotel if you are going to use it to store your belongings and will be outside sightseeing most of the time. Great night sleep and had great water pressure for showering. Staff on the front desk blew it! Just because we were a young middle class couple from NY doesn't mean you have to be stuck up! i Guess only RICH PEOPLE will make her smile!

Room Tip: Watch out for the lady in the front... she is not friendly! or helpful at all!

Great location, very near Aldgate tube station.
Stayed only one night, apart from a little noise from other's air conditioning, it was very quiet.
Room was very spacious for Central London and very clean. Lovely power shower.
Good choice of breakfast.
Would recommend this as a good place to stay, especially if you can get a special deal on price the night before. We only paid £116 for a club twin room through booking.com whereas the walk in rate was £325 which is well out of our price range!

We had a one night stay here and took in a show in London as well as some sightseeing. Ideal location with Aldgate tube station a few minutes walk away and the Tower of London etc. a 10 minute walk.Excellent room and good food. Only issue was that the lift wasn't working so we had to use the staff lift during our stay, not a major issue though. Recommended.

Room Tip: Splash out and take a roof terrace room but don't look for the views of Tower Bridge as advertis...
