“A comfortable overnight stay”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

A friendly welcome. Good size room and bathroom although the shower was not particularly easy to operate and the flow was pretty slow. Plenty of choice at breakfast including full English. A good place to stay if visiting London attractions or theatres as Heatherbank is away from the hustle and bustle and within walking distance of the underground. Would stay here again.

Well, spending £85 on a room in a guest house on the Northern line and the night bus route we hoped at the least it would be habitable, after all £85 barely buys a meal for 2 in London! Anyway we were to be very pleasantly surprised! We arrived at Woodside Park station and walked the 5 minutes or so up the road to the house and were greeted by some of the nicest people I've met in a guesthouse, our room - number 15 was lovely and large with 2 double beds and overlooking the beautifully manicured garden to the rear. The first thing I noted was how clean the place was, honestly had I not seen other reviews I'd have thought it had just been done - the ensuite again was well appointed and a good size double shower cubicle meant no cramped showers! Again the bathroom was so clean you would never know it had been used before.
The point of our stay was an evening at Koko in Mornington Crescent which was easy to get to either via tube or on the night bus which stops at the other end of Woodside Park Road if you happen to be able to stay awake past 1am (we weren't!). Anyway - morning came and a lovely breakfast room greeted us looking over the gardens, cereal, fruit, toast, juice and yoghurts were to help ourselves to and there was a wonderfully cooked full English breakfast as well - even though breakfast was until 9am it wasn't an issue that we arrived at 10 to. I can't say how amazing this place was and with their lovely big rooms no problem for families to stay so no doubt we will return with the children in the near future. Thank you Heatherbank!

We stayed at Heatherbank Guest House in order to be close to some work evening events.

We were first allocated a room on the ground floor right next to the entrance but when the owner noticed we were a bit hesitant about this room we quickly got another room at the top floor at the back of the building. This room was quiet and we had a good's night sleep for two nights.

We had to skip breakfast both mornings due to timing so we can't comment on the quality.

The owners were friendly and nice.

The rooms are a bit dated and decor is dark and uninspiring (try to paint the walls white and it would lighten up the place instantly at cheap cost).

It's not bad for what it is ...

My wife and I choose these guys because 1) they weren't in the city center, 2) prices were affordable and included breakfast, 3) easy tube access and 4) the rooms didn't appear to be the size of closets. Let me say that we could not have been happier with our choice: we stayed in room #1, which is near the entry door, and had no difficulty sleeping (in other words, it wasn't loud, apart from the one night some German female guests came back and had a giggle party in the room above ours - but that is nothing against the guesthouse itself, just that particular set of guests, who left the next day).

The room was much larger than I expected (I looked through so many properties with rooms that looked like mini-wardrobes), with a good sized bed, a small seating area, wardrobe, mini-fridge and ensuite bathroom. The room was clean, and was cleaned each day, IIRC. The bathroom, of course, was small to American tastes (but not significantly smaller than our older, ranch-style home's bathrooms), and the toilet took a little effort to flush correctly, which we found to be a normal experience in our stay in the UK. The bed was comfortable, and the radiators (heating) worked very well. The shower was easy to use, and we had no problems with hot water (which is something I read about on TONS of other London properties' reviews before selecting this one).

The street was very quiet at night; from the tube station note that it is an uphill walk, and another five minutes' walk past the guesthouse gets you to an ATM/bank, grocery stores, and a number of varied restaurants. There were many large trees around, and you feel like the area is doing well.

If it is not yet clear, this really is a VERY GOOD location for exploring London; it's a 30-minute tube ride to the city center, which is a nice buffer against the driving go-go-go feel of the heart of the city. This also means, even during peak times, that there is a higher chance of getting a seat on the tube going into the city, since you get on prior to many others. At night, even at later hours, we felt perfectly safe returning on the tube and walking back to the guesthouse.

The best thing, though, was the breakfast. I'm not sure the appropriate accolades to give here, it was such a small, but significant, psychological bonus to have a well-made, cooked-to-order, good-sized breakfast each morning. Good tea, orange juice, fruit, bacon and eggs, beans on toast - select from the options - it really was lovely. There are several tables in the breakfast room that look out onto their incredible garden as well.

We enjoyed London, of course; but these guys were a large part of how our trip turned out so well. Cheers to them.

Heatherbank is ideally situated just off the High Road in Finchley and within a 10 minute walk of a Northern Line station, so getting about on bus or tube couldn't be easier. The staff were welcoming, very friendly & helpful and our room was large and comfortable. Breakfasts were hearty with a good selection. Locally, there are plenty of eateries within 5 minutes walk for an evening meal.

Comfortable clean overnight accommodation. Pleasant room with nice shower. The lady looking after the business was an excellent ambassador for the owner, welcoming, efficient and extremely friendly. Her 'full breakfast was to die for. Will definitely stay there again if ever in that neck of the woods.

We booked a room at this guesthouse to attend a friend's wedding. The room was very spacious with two double beds and a large bathroom. The whole place was very clean with a very pleasant breakfast room. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. I certainly hope that we will stay there again in the future.
