“Good Basic Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 May 2012

Stayed at this hotel and once again had a good night sleep. The hotel is basic but very good value and clean.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
The breakfast is very good, freshly cooked and filling. You may have to wait a bit when it is busy but it makes you more hungry with the smell of bacon wafting around you.
The rooms are small, the beds are very comfortable but after all you need is somewhere to wash and laid you head.
A great hotel and only a short walk from Kings Cross or St Pancras.

We weren't expecting much from this hotel and having stayed there I can say that the location is just about the only thing going for it. We found the staff at check-in and in particular breakfast bordering on rude. One of the staff got very aggressive with an elderly couple while we were eating which came across as very unprofessional. The room was fairly clean and reasonably spacious by EU standards, but the shower head didn't work properly and one of the taps leaked. In addition, the wi-fi was not available (although when booking we thought there was) and it was quite noisy throughout the night.

The room you get can be a disaster. Mine had a leaky sink, the Internet did not work (it did downstairs) the carpet was worn, the bed was up against the window there was a single small towel. The place is cheerful, the staff helpful, the breakfast English and good.

Room Tip: Check your room, request Internet capability.

a 2 minute walk from kings cross makes this a great location. basic room but very clean & comfortable. very helpful staff on reception & the owner was lovely. the only thing that let it down was breakfast; the food was good & great helpings but we sat for over 5 mins before even being spoken to & a smile or pleasant attitude doesn't cost anything does it? the people on the table next to us were asked to leave to let other people sit down before they'd even finished drinking their tea! we would stay there again as it is cheap & easy to get to but be aware it is a bit noisy when people start using the facilities early

I stayed at the HW between March 18/20 in a single room with an ensuite bathroom. Americans that have never been to EU they may be surprised at how small the room and bathroom are. The room was very comfortable and I cannot express how clean it was. Location was fabulous. Just a very short walk to Kings Cross St. Pancras station. Lots of restaurants, shopping, etc. nearby. You cannot beat the location for the price. The only issues that I have are: that there is no elevator, I had several bags since I was on trip for both personal and business so was traveling for 2wks. I was put on the top floor and had to lug all of these heavy bags up a very narrow stairway, I was disapointed that there was no offer from the hotel staff to help me with my bags. The other issue is that the hotel still uses actual metal keys for the room and there is no secondary lock on the door. This didnt bother me so much but I would not let my wife or daughter sleep in one of these rooms alone. It also would have been nice if there were a phone in the room and if WIFI was available.

Room Tip: Room 20 is a good single room, however it is on the top floor and there is no elevator

We stayed at the HW for 3 nights, the room & bathroom were compact but clean & cosy - what we expected, for the price we paid.

Whilst we were there we had maid service daily, consisting of a supply off fresh towels & room clearing...current maids are completely trust worthy as my partner in crime often left his suitcase wide open with clothes spilling out and on one occasion with his laptop right on top hehe ...so no issues in that department (mentioning laptop.. this place offers free wifi .. just ask for the password at reception).

Breakfast was filling, they offer a full English (beans, egg, bacon rashers & good sausages - that's a good enough English for me.. not bothered about tomatoes or mushrooms!) together with toast & marmalade/jam/butter/choc spread/honey, a pot Tea or Coffee & glass of juice. On one occasion I just felt like some bacon & toast...where I was given extra slices seeing as I just had that, and my breakfast partners' plates had nothing missing from theirs’ ..as regards the staff.. sometimes you have to understand that different cultures act in different ways, however they were always well mannered & to the point. Breakfast is from 0700 - 0900hrs, yes at 0900hrs we were advised that breakfast time was up, but still politely - there was one gentleman who wasn't quite finished yet & I didn't see them chucking him out - I have a feeling that the b’fast staff are the cleaning ladies too, so understandable that they'd wish to get on with their duties - that's what times are given for I guess ^_^

The hotel is in an extremely central, quiet & clean area, literally minutes walking distance from Kings Cross.

I would stay at this hotel again if I was going to be in the area - it's not a luxurious hotel, if you want luxury go to a 5 star place & be prepared to pay for it...what I look for a place when travelling, is mainly a clean/cosy room & bed to sleep in, clean bathroom to wash in & most importantly feel safe - I feel we got what we wanted & good value for money here.

Room Tip: Try & get a room with an ensuite bathroom, also yes, the floors do creek a little, so if you'...

Stayed in this Hotel for 4 nights mid-March 2012. Room was small but clean, bed comfortable, ensuite clean. Room cleaning and change of towels carried out each day. Good English breakfast each morning consisting of sausage, fried eggs, baked beans and bacon. Also included pot of tea or coffee, toast and glass of orange. This hotel is in a quiet area and few minutes away from King's Cross station (tube). Staff very friendly and efficient. The only thing we found irritating was the creaking of the roof whenever someone moved in the room upstairs, either very early in the morning or late at night!!

Room Tip: stay in upper level rooms as quieter
