Based on stay from 19/07 untill 22/07
Room: very small but tidy, no airco
Bathroom: small and tidy, showertemperature is not constant
Wifi: not free, but 10pound per day!
Reception: very frienldly, ask here you remote control for 10p deposit
Breakfast: poor: egg, toast or cereals with coffee/tea or 1 juice. TIP: eat out nearby !
Location: PERFECT: 3 minutes from Paddington station and 5 min form Hyde Park, nice surroundings and enough nearby bars/shops and restaurants
Hotel general: elevator only untill 3rd floor!! Location not included, no 3 stars worthy.

Room Tip: Choose a room at lower floors not viewing Sussex Gardens-road!

We've just returned home after spending three nights in the Alexandra. Before our visit I was a little nervous about what to expect, given the reviews here. In the end I need to say that the hotel worked for what we wanted i.e. a family room, not too expensive in central London. The location itself is superb, one block from Paddington station/tube and a short walk from Hyde Park. We had a family room, 1 double and 3 singles in a quiet basement corner of the hotel. More than enough room for our family. The breakfasts also worked well, although the selection was somewhat limited (e.g. only white bread, and a "cold platter" with only 1 cheese and 2 processed meats). Overall the staff were helpful and efficient.
There are down-sides to the Alexandra. The hotel furniture and fittings are dated, it was like a trip back to the 1970's. The shower/toilet room was the worst part, and to be honest the owners really need to re-fit the bathrooms. The showers worked, and most of the time, came with plenty of hot water, however since there was only a cheap shower curtain the floors tended to flood and the water had soaked into the door, causing it to rot and warp. The final problem is the layout of the hotel. Nothing much seems to have been done to the hotel to sort out the space properly, so there is a maze of corridors and steps to get around the hotel. On top of this the hotel has old and cheap fire doors installed, which bang on closing. I'm glad we were in the basement and at the end of our corridor. Naturally there was no lift down to our room, so I was required to lug our suitcases up and down the stairs to get into our room.
Final thoughts: This isn't a bad hotel, but If the reviews of the hotel have put you off then there are plenty of other hotels on Sussex Gardens that may suit you better.

The worst Hotel ever, I had to go up to my room with my luggage. the room was at the 4th floor. There was no lift.... The room was very small and dirty, the shower was very small, there was even written that the towels were changed every 2 days and we had to buy other towels to have them clean.

This hotel was pretty good from our point of view, only the room we got was REALLY small, but other than that, it is in an excellent location (just a few blocks from Hyde Park, and 2 blocks away from Paddington station), it includes a very complete breakfast, the rooms and hotel in general are clean, the staff is really friendly, and it's great value for your money. The hotel is also nice, and the surroundings are nice as well.

Very helpful staff. Clean rooms, perfect place for trips. Standard breakfast, but fresh food - not so wide variety of choices. Rooms reservation made longer time before arrival, nevertheless no problem at arrival.
