“Dreadful”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2013

The good: The nearby Yak & Yeti and Tudor Barn restaurants were both really good, the bed was clean and comfortable and the area was quite nice.

The bad: There was a strong smell of vomit in the halls for the days we were there and no effort seemed to have been made to remove it or disguise it. Breakfast was miniature boxes of Kelloggs cereals, a jar of instant coffee and a toaster. I was in the converted attic which had a tiny bathroom that you couldn't stand up in and was constantly too warm because the skylight was broken so would not stay open, the blind on the window was thin, white and broken so there was no way of keeping sunlight out. The rooms were badly insulated so you could hear everything from rooms beside you and the music the staff insisted on playing in reception.

The ugly: At breakfast on our last day a rat ran across the floor of the dining area then spent the next 15 mins scratching behind the wall behind the cereals, the member of staff assured as he would "catch that rat sir".

Pretty awful place that to be honest I'm surprised has not been closed down on health and safety grounds.

Room Tip: If you are crazy enough to stay here I'd suggest avoiding the ground floor as you'll be livi...

We've booked two double rooms for our parents to stay over for our wedding in Central London, for five consecutive nights. It doesn't look extraordinary from the outside, traditional Victorian, but we've found it quite cosy and pleasant design inside.
On the day we've booked the rooms, we've been shown the one with the lovely ensuite from the website. On the arrival day we got that one plus a small surprise for the second one, the ensuite was slightly smaller; not very convenient.
It was a bit unpleasant for our guests, but the receptionist showed us the other rooms available to consider if we want to change. It wasn't needed.Unfortunately the others were as well a bit smaller compared with the one on the website. I have really appreciated the fact he did show us the ones available and gave us the chance to choose, if we wanted.
The rooms are well balanced; the advantage of the one with the smaller toilet was the fact that was actually a bigger size room. They can actually reconsider the space and rebuild the walls separating the room from the toilets. It's going to be an extra cost but at least they wont have any more complaints.
They do look like in the pictures provided on the website, they just need more freshen up before the guests arrive and a thorough clean as it might get dustier for some guests with breathing difficulty.Just one of the couples we had as guests made a comment about. The towels and bed linen were clean and available to be changed during their stay.
Breakfast is continental style and you can help yourself with what your heart desires and also you can over look the garden. It needs a bit more care as the seasons changes but is understandable. Also the drive at the front of the hotel being off the main street is not very helpful like most of the London areas to be kept nice and clean.

I wish I had read reviews before booking this "hotel"
On arrival, the hotel has what I can only descibe as a grubby appearance, and that is from the outside. Were asked for immediate full payment on arrival (I think that is the first time I have ever been asked to pay on arrival !) Given keys to the room ... Immediately found that only 1 of the 3 or 4 bulbs in the main light was working. Were given another room.
Well the room ... I'm not sure where they got the pictures for their web site from ... maybe there is a room in the hotel that looks like it.. but the two rooms I saw were never even near to that standard. Towels and bed linnen was stained ... how can anyone provide such is a mystery to me .. someone must have noticed as they made the bed or laid out the towels !
The paper on the ceiling was hanging off ... and by the looks of it had been for some time. The room could have done with a good dusting. Breakfast is "continental style" and that is being kind. You over look the garden .. which was as shabby and unkept as the drive at the front of the hotel. Its the first time ever that I have stayed at a "hotel" where at breakfast you make your own coffee by spooning your coffee from a nescafe jar into your cup ! If you wanted a pastry .. it was in the Tesco packet !! (at least I could tell they were not out of date ! )
Do yourself a favour and read through the other reviews ... and if you should want to stay ... certainly ask and only accept the room that they show on there web site

We are sory for the delay in responding to your comments.
This is the first time a guest has complained about the room size. all our double bedrooms are of reasonable size with ensuit shower facilities, howerver some rooms smaller than the others and perhaps your room was the smaller. All rooms has been recently refurbished, some have fitted carpets and others fitted with wood floor, all rooms cleaned daily.

juices at least 2; Ornage juice and Apple juice.
Fresh fruits; banana, apple, orange.
Coffee at least 3 or 4 types.
Tea; english breakfast tea and several types of Twinings tea in envelops.
Nestle coffee mate, milk.
several types if individually packed kelogs cereals. croussans, and pasteries.
Bread,Butter, Margarine, Cheese spread,
several types of Jam portions.
your suggestion of what more to include in our breakfast could have been very much appreciated.

a very, very small double room. Does Not resemble the one shown on the web site at all. Old Carpets not very clean. Poor breakfast. bad value for the money paid. I was visiting relatives in Eltham and looking for a place nearby but next time would rather travel longer and stay at a nicer place.

We had to find a place for our guests to stay for the weekend as we had organized an event. We stayed on one of the two nights and found it very clean, the bed was comfy and although the bathroom a bit small was fine for a short stay. Peter was very helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: If you are staying for more than two nights then go for a family room.

It seems that they don't know what a vacuum cleaner is, the drawers of the closet were full of crumbs and insects "momified". The bed linen were stained in yellow, big holes in it. They never changed the linen.
We only stayed the 3 nights we had booked, because we went to a wedding in Eltham and it was convenient for us to move from the hotel to see family. We froze during the night. Breakfast had only instaneous coffee and toast - some fresh fruit.

To expensive for what it gives you. It is a shame.
