We stayed in Abercorn for a week. The kitchens and showers were clean, the staff ok, the atmosphere is not what you expect of a "youth hostel" - loads of people seems to actually properly live there. Good location, close to amendities, tubes for the city etc.
Be careful though : in the space of a week we got two things that got stolen in the room (and it was a private room...).

This was our favorite room of the 6 in our Europe trip. Super cute (private) rooms, and a surprisingly great location.

That said - we had a double en-suite room. I've no idea what the more numerous hostel rooms are like. Also - it would appeal more to private en-suite guests more than a hostel crowd - it was quite, cute, and pleasant. That said - those looking to mingle/drink with other hostel guests - it didn't really seem to have the spaces for that.

The room was cute, clean, and fairly large. (See photo uploaded). We really liked it. THE LOCATION IS MUCH BETTER THAN IT APPEARS! Via a tube map, it looks to be at the end of the Hammersmith & city line. Which it is - and it looks a bit inconvenient. What it doesn't show clearly, is walking across the intersection, one is in the *other* Hammersmith station - the one with stops for the District and PIcadilly lines. Talk about a poor tube map design...as a bonus, there's a rather large bus station also across the intersection, though we never investigated its routes.

For a double en-suite room at least - it was a great location, and a really cute/stylish room. I wish we'd stayed here rather than the other place we did in London. One of the few hotels on Tripadvisor that I would say is under-rated (as opposed to perfectly rated). Maybe too many hostel-users hoping for a party, and too many people who didn't find that the tube situation was actually very good?

Stayed here during the games and paid a stupid high price. Hostel is a good location, close to the tube station, room was clean but staff are very unhelpful. The night manager was on when we arrived early, not one "hello", or "can I help you". We had a double room with ensuite. Room was clean, but very, very basic! 2 towels, bed was hard and paper thin pillows.
I would not recommend this hostel!!

Confusing, this is listed as and the sign said Abercorn House. First impression is things are tight. They take cash only; WiFi 1 quid for an hour; the reception is behind glass only two small slots for taking cash, it communicates unfriendliness/unsafe area, key deposit 5 quids...The place is inhabited mostly by long-term workers.

The first two floors have just been remodeled, freshly painted and sparkling clean. When I was there for four nights there were no construction noise early in the morning, although works were still been done on the upper floors.

This is not the place to meet people. A few times I peeped into the TV/computer room, only a couple of unfriendly guys appeared to be workers were there: four of the six computers were broken, soda machine were broken. I only saw a customer once at the snack bar next to the reception.

That said, my single room was sparkling clean and basic, shared showers were shinning. I only ran into four people the whole time on the second floor (third floor for the Americans). This place is only a couple of blocks from the Hammersmith Underground Station (Tube). So it's easy access to the London City and Heathrow and close to grocery shopping at Tesco at the station.

A place for good sleep (single room) and convenient.

Room Tip: Single room upper floor facing the street with window.

I personally viewed the hostel before booking. It is a short walk from the Hammersmith station. I was taken by elevator to the room (4 bunk in a room). The room was clean, had a mini frig. There was a closet for clothes, but it was a large one and did not have a locking system (if this room was shared with others not in your party). The facility was clean as they are remodeling. The room had large tiled floors. The kitchen was small and clean, however, there was not any items to use (pots, pans, etc). There was a microwave. In the room, there was a p setting of 4 plate, cup, utensils, and 4 rolls of toilet tissue. A towel was provided for the length of your stay and sheets for the bed as well. Then we arrived for our stay with some changes. Upon asking, the staff did supply a small table and chairs which made the room much more comfortable. The elevator was not available for use for visitors (not a plus for those with a disability or heavy luggage). There was not air conditioning, so the windows were open (remodeling starts at 7 AM with the banging and such). The toilets are in a different location from the showers (remember to take your roll from the room). Both of the facilities are unisex, so if you do not want to be showering next to the opposite sex, have an alternative plan. The windows were open in the toilet, and your back (and other parts) are shown to the people in the next building. The staff was pleasant and helpful. There was a deposit for the TV room on the first floor, which was returned when you checked out. Internet was available for purchase. The small snack counter (drinks & candy) was reasonably priced. There was a supermarket and McDonalds close by. Overall, the staff was respectful, the facility was clean, but lacked privacy and quiet. I would choose a different facility next time.
