“Good hotel, super loaction, friendly staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2013

Hotel is on great place, Sussex gardens looks like very peaceful neighborhood. We came from Stansted to Baker street and from there is about 15 minutes walk to hotel. Metro is really close (5 minut), but also main attractions are in Range (Buckingham palace, Big Ben) by walk. Some restaurants and bars are also really close. Hotel is really simple, bathroom is really small. For sleeping is it enough. Breakfast is also simple, but I think everybody find something to eat. We met 3 staff members and all are very kind. I can recommend this hotel.

we stayed at columbus hotel in december.. on arrival we were given the key to a triple room on the 1st floor, the stairs were very steep and narrow, the room was a decent size and was clean, the shower room was tiny but clean, we did not have any curtains up in our room but 1 hour after we arrived 2 nice people put the curtains up, but the curtains were wet and water was dripping on the floor, the radiators were not hot so we could not dry them so we had to leave the window open as they were steaming up, not a good start.. the hotel was very close to paddington station and only 2 minute walk to hyde park.. the street outside the hotel was classed as the carpark and the hotel charged us £30 for 30 hours parking but was supposed to be £15 per 24 hours.. we had a knock on our door at 7pm from the man on reception accusing us of smoking in the room..and he was really arrogant which did not go down very well with my partner.. the breakfast room is tiny and the breakfast was continental not english.. great if you are from overseas but not us we like british breakfasts not baguettes, cheese and ham.. it did say on booking it was contintal so was my fault for not looking.. all in all a hotel in a good location very basic and we certainly will not go back to columbus hotel

Located near Paddington Station and near the tube, in a nice area where many other hotels are located, Columbus is an OK place to stay for couple of nights.
The street in front of it might get rather busy and noisy at times but rooms are well soundproofed. Be warned: rooms ARE small - I had a double room on the third floor and there was hardly more than 50-60 cm of free space around the bed. It was quite obvious that the bathroom was actually ADDED to the room at some point. Admittedly, the bathroom was very clean and kept this way during my two night stay, but it was hardly larger than an airplane toilet (if there were showers on airplanes, that is). Bedclothes and towels were clean. Complimentary coffee and tee in the room.
The staircase is rather narrow and it is very steep - be careful there, especially if staying higher than floor 2.Can't say anything about the breakfast - never tried it though I had it in my rate.
Staff are friendly and helpful. But mind you - hotel does not have night reception - everyone is gone at 10.30pm. Hotel will not accommodate you before 3.30 pm no matter what. Staff will let you leave your luggage there but will refuse any responsibility in case of theft or damage. (I had no problems of the kind, though).
You have to pay for the wi-fi - GBP 5 for a day, GBP 7.50 for two days and it works for one device only so you have to buy a new connection for any additional device.
There was a single electric socket in my room (301)! That socket was for the TV and the water heating jug and also for charging phones and other devices. That means that if you want to make yourself some instant coffee, you cannot, say, watch TV in the same time. I find this annoying as, say, charging electronic devices is one of the modern life's basics and even small hotels must think of that. There was another socket in the bathroom, labeled 'shavers only' but it works with two currents and travelers, especially those from the US, must be careful which current they use in order not to have their device fried. Also, one of my nights I had no internet connection (for which I have paid) - the system came back to life when the staff returned in the morning.
The hotel has no luggage room. You leave your stuff in the ground floor hallway and hope that no other guest will take the wrong bag on his/her way out...

Room Tip: On par with other hotels of that type in London. A little overpriced maybe, but still a nice place f...

Wenf on a course here. Conference room was too hot. If you opened the windows it was too noisy. Catering for lunch was very poor. Sandwiches and crisps which were to be eaten in the room.

Toilets were downstairs and were disgusting.

Hotel had a strange smell to it.

Some delegates stayed at the hotel. I am really glad I didn't or I would have been asking for a rdfund

Room Tip: Don't bother as a conference facility

The hotel is in an area with a lot of this kind of hotels. All of them seem to be similar. Columbus has Not a lot of rooms, small ones and the cleanless can be improved. A lot of dust on the elevated mirror of the room or whre the tv is hold.
Breakfast is not english at all, only ham, cheese, bread, coffe, honey and some croissant.
People ok, a french girl did the check in and we could have the four beds room before the time arranged.
She gave us the map with the discounts in attractions and restaurants. Very interesting discounts.
Very close to the tube(lancaster station)
Bathroom very very very small, but clean.
