The Clarendon is ideally situated for a visit to marvellous Greenwich, but is also a good starting point for a visit to the center of London. The river catamaran boat brings you in less than half hour to Westminster.
We arrived at 1pm and could directly go to our room: very good with a nice seperate bed for our daughter. We could park the car in the parking lot at the rear of the hotel.
In the morning, we enjoyed the breakfast buffet with all items you expect for a full English breakfast. If you needed anything else, we just had to ask it.
We will go back to the Clarendon for our next visit to London!
Thanks a lot.

Dear Wim V
Thank you for your review, we are so pleased that everything was good for you and that you enjoyed your stay. I am very impressed with your travel to London by boat from Greenwich, a great way to get into town. (I noticed that our local football team Charlton FC has been bought by a Belgium business man, so perhaps we may see more guest from Belgium soon. Happy new year .
Once again thank you for the review

For our Christmas break, we wanted to spend time with my family – near Blackheath in London.

So I did what I rarely do, I picked a hotel based solely on location, essentially I was prepared to stay anywhere… so long as it was close to Blackheath. We selected this hotel and wow! What a find, this is an absolutely marvelous hotel and highly recommended. In my humble opinion, this hotel is underrated and our Holiday was definitely enhanced by our stay here. This hotel is surely on our “must return” list.

Three major plus points for this hotel. First to mention are the staff – absolutely great, friendly, efficient. These are the type of people that put a capital “H” in Hospitality. The folks at the front desk were friendly, they had a great attitude, prompt, very helpful with directions. In the restaurant, we ‘clicked’ with Lorenzo, who despite being busy always had a couple of minutes to say hello and ask about our meal and our day (nice touch). Second was the breakfast – included by default for all rooms, and a marvelous buffet of hot/cold choices (I’m a ‘breakfast’ type of person, so this wins big points for me). One day we decided to eat in (the weather was typical for London at Christmas, enough rain to bring an umbrella, enough wind to make it pointless). The lunch was very good - good tasty food, good service, good wine selection, nice place, and reasonable prices. Lastly is the location (in the real estate business they say the 3 most important characteristics of a property are location, location and location – and surely this is very important for any hotel). Blackheath is well connected by train to the centre of London (ca. 2 or 3 services an hour, and ca. 20-25 minutes – look at a timetable for details), also well connected by bus to nearby places like Greenwich (where “east meets west” - an absolute must if you are touring London) – the staff at the hotel will tell you the bus number, and stop – some services stop just outside the hotel. Blackheath itself is not cheap, lots of nice, but pricey shops, lots of good (reasonable prices on the couple I tried) eating places.

OK to be balanced and fair, I should mention one weakness – the buildings are old, if you are looking for smoked glass, stainless steel, and a room on the 28th floor then keep looking (you will find none of these things here). While old buildings have their very own charm, clearly the idea of a bathroom in every bedroom was not in the original design (i.e. the bathroom is a little on the small side). As I am tall (and a little wide) a small bathroom is easily noticed, however without a doubt the plus points easily outweigh this distraction.

Room tip: Ask for a room facing the "common".

Dear Ian_Erding
Thank you for taking the time to write your review, we are all so pleased that the hotel helped you enjoy your stay in Blackheath. I am so pleased that you found the staff pleasant and helpful, Lorenzo is a great waiter and has a nice personality, he is new with us and I hope he will stays. Blackheath Village is a secret part of London, but once discovered most people love it.
Sorry about the bathroom, let us know when you come again and we will put you in room with a larger bathroom. Once again many thanks and happy new year.

Just returned from one night stay with elderly parents.
Is the Clarendon the poshest hotel I've ever stayed in? No. Is it the friendliest? Yes.
Was the food the best I've ever had? No. Was the service the best? Yes.
Both my partner and I work in hospitality, a chef and front of house manager. We felt relaxed from the moment we arrived to the time we left. We were not the easiest of customers either, shortly after we arrived our family and friends descended for a pre Christmas gathering. We took over the lounge area in the entrance, ordered tea, coffee, drinks etc. everything was delivered with smiles. A precious gift in this industry.
The reception staff were lovely and very helpful.
The table we had for dinner, (we arrived late, sorry!) was perfectly laid and the service we received was brilliant and very personable.
The Pinot noir, delightful and not over priced. One minor critism would be the menu for dinner. Perhaps a little dated in choice and presentation, but hey, we weren't paying over the odds for a hotel dinner.
Breakfast was lovely and many thanks to the manager who told us about the horses dressed up for Christmas going past from the barracks. Lovely to see.
Overall, a friendly, clean and sensitively priced hotel in a fantastic location.
We will return.

Dear Pooleresident
'Thank you' for taking the time to complete your honest review. I am pleased we helped to make your stay enjoyable and that you enjoyed our hotel. We are a traditional hotel and I like to encourage the staff to show a more genuine side to service, rather than corporate yes and no. I remember you all at breakfast, and informing you about the Kings Troop Horse regiment passing by. We see these horses being exercised about once a month, but Christmas time is the best when they decorate themselves and their horses. (it can only happen in England) I do agree that I need to update the menus and presentation, I will be looking strongly at this in January. (any comments you would like to make please feel free to send them to me ken@clarendonhotel.com)
Once again thank you for taking the time to review the hotel

The room was very small and cramped.
The reception staff do not make eye contact did not smile and genuinely do not look happy to be working there.
The building facade is really only just that. This is quite a rundown bed and breakfast at best.
In the bathroom, the water pressure was very low and the shower to ages to warm up.
Once inside the room, it was impossible to lock the deadbolt. The bolt and the housing did not line up correctly.
This hotel advertises free Wi-Fi. However, in order to sign up for the free Wi-Fi you need to submit your cell number to which you will be Sent a code. I am from overseas so did not want to use my cell phone and incur large foreign carrier charges in order to do this. This rendered the Wi-Fi useless.
Blackheath and Greenwich are absolutely beautiful. I will certainly visit again but I will never stay here again.

Dear Alex V
thank you for your review, I am sorry that the deadbolt in your room was not aliened and that the service form our receptionist was not as I expect it to be. With regards to the shower, we are just completing a 12 months overall of our boiler system, this work is finished now. With regards to wi-fi, we use EE, one of the major internet providers, there are new guidelines these companies have to follow, so that internet use-age and access can be monitored better by the authorities. However you can by-pass this and still get access (for a limited time) if you do not wish to enter your telephone number, I will check to see if this information is evident enough. Thank you for your review.

I check-in on 11 Dec and stayed for 3 nights. I came with no expectation as this is suppose to be a clean and basic hotel. After my experiences, I will have second thought coming back.
The room was clean and bed was very soft. House-keeping staff were very polite and efficient. Breakfast was not bad and the staff there were equally polite. Location was good, just 5 minutes walk to Blackheath train station and easy bus ride to Lewisham centre.

However, I will not say so for the staff at the front desk. A special delivery was sent to me to the hotel via Royal Mail. However, the staff at the front desk refused to sign. Different excuses were given when I confronted them. Upon verifying with the excuses that they cited, all were not true. I guess it's just not my day.

Hope the management team can look into the attitude of the staff at the front desk. Thank you to the house-keeping for keeping the rooms clean.

Dear sunnylsland71
Thank you for your review, I am glad you found the hotel bedrooms, our food and staff in good standing. I did look into your issue with the parcel, I personally think either we put your name in our system with the wrong spelling or the parcel had the wrong spelling. I understand the receptionist contacted the sorting office for you to collect your packagfe in our village. if you do wish to contact me, my details are ken@clarendonhotel.com
