When you are going to the Excel Center for a convention, this is the only place you need to have on your list.

Others say they are close, but this one is right there at the front door. Within walking distance of 20 very good restaurants and even two small markets for snacks.

The business rooms are amazing and very quite.

Easy to get into London from the DLR to the Jubilee line and you are there.

Check out the food and drink in the lounge and tell the staff we said hi....

Room Tip: Ask for a business room...very cool...

I needed a hotel for two nights at the ExCel but I couldn't get two nights in one hotel. In the end I stayed at the Ibis for the first night and then the Novotel. I shopped around and got both hotels at £50 per night.

The Ibis might be basic but it met all my needs, the Novotel has a swanky reception, charges more for breakfast and smells nicer in the corridors. There are speakers in the shower too, potentially annoying if you want an nice relaxing shower but have to listen to whatever telly channel your room mate is watching. It was handy for two friends sharing that the loo is separate to the bathroom but here's the deal breaker... The Ibis has plug sockets next to both bed side tables, the Novotel doesn't. Not in the room we stayed in anyway. It may seem trivial to some but I'm betting there are thousands of us who charge our phones overnight and also use them as alarm clocks. There are plenty of opportunities for breakfast in the ExCel itself so you wouldn't catch me paying stupid hotel prices but I had to, I'd rather pay less for the same stuff at Ibis.

In summary;
Bed - same
Shower - same
Cleanliness - same
Breakfast - Ibis cheaper
Room rate - Ibis cheaper
Parking - same (they share a car park)
Plug sockets - Ibis has more and better located!

Don't waste your money on Novotel if you have the choice between the two.

One thing to note though for those that don't know, you do get a proper shower in both, none of this fixed shower head nonsense.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review following your stay at Novotel London ExCeL. I was happy to read that you found our hotel good but was disappointed to see that your stay did not fully meet your expectations.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the fact that there are no plug sockets next to bed. Should you stay with us in the future, please ask reception for an upgrade to our New Generation executive rooms, where you will find some sockets located next to bed.

I was truly sorry to read you would not stay again but remain at your service should you wish to give us another chance to better serve you in the future.

It's quite a ride (DLR and Tube) to the centre, but for City airport, the Excel Centre and Docklands financial centre, it's well placed.
The rooms are standard Novotel (not a bad thing, they're nice). I have stayed about 10 times over the last year and have always found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. There are several bars and restaurants in easy walking distance and if you do want to go to the centre of London, the DLR is only a five minute walk away. There is sometimes a little noise from aircraft landing and taking off from the aircraft, but it is well contained by the double glazing. Breakfast is of high quality. Ask if you want poached or fried eggs as they are not put out.

Having stayed there for 11 nights we had plenty of time to get to know the hotel well and we really liked it. The hotel is very good and new, has entertainment for kids inside and nearby, good breakfast and a cool bar and restaurant. It's really far from city center, but that is not so much of a problem as DLR is just a few steps from the hotel. It did put ne off a bit the fact that we had to keep an eye on the watch not to miss the last train back, but, apart from that, I'd most certainly stay there again and totally recommend it.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your review, I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us

It was dissapointing to read that you found our location to be really far from city centre. For those reading this review, I would like to clarify the fact that our hotel is located in the East Part of London just few metres away from the DLR station Custom House or Royal Victoria. From this station, you can reach the Tower Bridge directly in only 20 minutes or London Bridge station (via DLR and Tube) in only 15 minutes. Heathrow airport is located in the West End and the closest airport from the hotel is London City Airport.

On a positive note, I was happy to read that our location did not deter from your overall satisfaction and hope to see you back to our property very soon.

Kind regards,

Magdalena Fratczak

I took my mother (who uses a wheelchair) and nice (8) for a 2 night stay 28th Feb -2nd March. Although not a 'central' location, the hotel is a short stroll from the DLR and bus routes as well as the Emirates Airline over the docks to the O2. On arrival we were greeted by a helpful man on check in who took the time to make sure we were happy with everything and answered any questions we had. As advertised, the hotel is wheelchair friendly. We had a Superior Queen room (301) located at the front of the hotel overlooking the ExCel. The description stated the room included a 'sofa bed' for my niece which was easily a double and fit comfortably next to the main bed with no issues. As we had arrived late evening we decided to order room service, the menu prices were quite reasonable and what you'd expect to pay if eating out so we had no complaints. The food was lovely and the service prompt and polite. The bathroom was clean and neat. My niece specifically enjoyed the large bath!! Another highlight was the children's area near the dining room which included an X box so the kids were occupied at meal times. The view onto the docks was especially nice to look at over breakfast. It was also useful having a Tesco Express and Nisa just down the road for late night snacks etc. If you don't mind a short journey into the city each day this hotel is ideal and we will definitely stay here again.
