If you're attending an exhibition at the ExCel conference centre, this hotel's location would be very difficult to beat - it is literally a couple of minutes walk from the front door, and very close to the Custom House tube station.
It's also really good for getting to the O2 arena across the river, which we did via the Emirates gondola ride - which was great and good value considering it's central London. We went to eat over at the O2 and then stayed for drinks....the only issue this caused was we then had to get a taxi back as the Emirates closes relatively early.
Anyway, back to the hotel:
Positives - the staff were very helpful, the views over the River Thames are great and the food in the restaurant (we ate there for breakfast on 2 mornings) was of a very good standard. The bar has a reasonably good atmosphere when busy. Wifi was included and the speed was 'ok' (i.e. not great, but enough for email and social media)
Negatives - as with many central London hotels, the price of drinks was very high, unfortunately that goes with the location.
I was originally booked into a standard room and my initital impression was average at best to be honest. I then had a problem with the shower when the shower head detached itself from the shower hose and sprayed water everywhere. I then had a problem with the shower when the shower head detached itself from the shower hose and sprayed water everywhere. I complained to the hotel and they moved me to an upgraded room without hesitation, and apologised profusely, so no complaints there. They handled the situation very well.
One other comment to note - I am a silver member of the Accor hotels reward scheme (the 2nd level up) and was a bit miffed to find out that non-members arriving at the same time as I initially did initially were upgraded to the executive rooms. I had to complain about a broken shower before being upgraded....!
The executive rooms are certainly worth paying more for if you can afford it (or get your company to pay for it!) as the beds/pillows are much more comfortable, the rooms are of a much higher standard, e.g. they have a Nespresso machine. The standard rooms are, well, standard.
All in all, I would certainly stay here again, but only if I could stay in one of the executive rooms.More
