“Comfortable Hotel in Excellent Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2014

The Crowne Plaza London is located across the street from the Blackfriers Station which provides excellent transport to all the rail stations in London and trains to Brighton. It is also a five minute walk to the Thames River where it is easy to get aboard one of the convenient boats or to walk along the embankment. It is a 10-15 min. easy walk to St Paul's cathedral . The room was very spacious for a London hotel and extremely comfortable as well as quiet. The friendly and very helpful welcome we received when checking in was a real plus! Dorothea, a trainee even ran after us when she realized we did not understand that our room key card was needed in the elevator.

We have stayed here on several occasions but this was my first trip in around 18 months.

We had a King Suite which was spacious and well equipped - a little tired around the edges but acceptable for the price paid. However my gripe was with the very poor bedding. The bed was of the 'bouncy' variety which I do not like but put up with, but the duvet was so lumpy there were portions with no filling at all. It was also so small it did not quite reach the edges of the bed.

The pillows were even worse - they were so long past their useful life that after around 5 minutes of use your head was on the mattress and the filling was around your ears.

In addition to a rough nights sleep the hotels bar and the Cricket Club restaurant were closed throughout our stay - a hotel in London (fairly busy) with no bar? Apparently closed for several days. You could buy drinks in the Italian restaurant but this is hardly acceptable. The Blackfriar pub over the road was the only option which whilst having a great ambience tends to be packed to the rafters with no place to sit.

So overall we were glad to be leaving. It used to be a good hotel in a good location with reasonable rates for London, but the most important factor is surely a decent nights sleep. On checkout when I mentioned this my comments were greeted with indifference and so next time I may look elsewhere.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a theatre break. On arrival the hotel is very clean and modern and the reception staff were very friendly and efficient. Our room was upgraded and was excellent. It had the appearance of being brand new and was well equipped - even with an iPhone 5 charger amongst others!!
The room heating was a little tricky to master; first it was too cold and then too hot but the middle setting was fine. We didn't eat in the hotel, breakfast seemed a little pricey but there are eateries, coffee shops and even a Tesco Express adjacent to the hotel.
The walk to theatre land took about 15 minutes at a leisurely pace.
We took the car and parked it overnight in the recommended car park, some 300m walk from the hotel.
Overall we got a good deal at this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: There are a few corner rooms with a glimpse of the River Thames.

We stayed here over the New Year with our 2 children. The hotel is very well situated directly opposite Blackfriars tube and very close to the river. We walked to all the main attractions including the South Bank, Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Covent Gardens which is perfectly feasible from this location so long as you don't mind a bit of exercise. We watched the NYE fireworks from Blackfriars Bridge and had an amazing view. The hotel itself is very clean and the buffet breakfasts were lovely. The only issue I had was that while we were staying the Italian restaurant was only open 1 out of 3 nights and on New Years Day the only place to eat was the lounge area in reception. Also this area was very understaffed which caused us a few issues, however the General Manager was very helpful when this was pointed out.

Great room on club floor, really quiet. Comfy bed, pillows a bit soft but ok. Nice big bath and big towels. Toiletries good quality. TV flat screen, internet access great. Air con fully functioning. Staff really pleasant at desk on check in and out. For us the only drawback was the view - we looked right in to offices and they at us, could almost read the PC screens! Ok in day as net curtains worked but as it got to dusk felt had to lose the curtains early. That said, lighting good so not a problem. Overall great stay. Have stayed here before and would do so again.

We just finished up our 7 days at the Crowne Plaza London City and just found everything remarkable. The staff including the front desk, the concierge and restaurant people have been wonderful. We were upgraded to the club floor because of being an ambassador platinum. The club has excellent food, snacks and service. What a pleasure with the club staff. Our room was very nice and quiet. Very nice bedding. The hotel is right across the street from the underground and a very nice station with under street access. No problem getting to Victoria Station or anywhere else. Do not let the fact the Golden Tour folks do not come here for pick up. Get a 7 day underground pass and work your own schedule. The only thing I can think of is that on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day the restaurants were running on a limited or non opening schedule. Great Job and thank you once again.

Room Tip: High floor and stay on the club level

We stayed during the new year period, London is fabulous in that time. Just around the corner of the hotel lies the Thames with good view of the London Eye, so we were able to watch the fireworks without walking through the massive crowds. The hotel is lovely, good rooms (we had a family room with 2 adults, 2 children), good service, good breakfast facilities. Very helpful staff.

The only downside is that the rooms do not have opening windows/ventilation possibilities. So air-conditioning during the night. We prefer to sleep with a bit of fresh air in the rooms.

Next time in London we would consider to go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks out on to the streets, otherwise you might end up in a room overlooking th...
