“Crowne of thorns”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

Stayed on 19th June 2014

A beautifully refurbished hotel in a fabulous location spoiled by arrogant and rude staff.
I arrived late in the afternoon having booked the same day due to a change of business plans. I am a platinum elite member and overall am a very satisfied customer with IHG ( Staybridge Westfield and the holiday inn express stratford high street are my usual haunts). This is my first ever review and I felt compelled to write because I have never experienced so many arrogant and rude staff in my time with ihg

Club lounge receptionist. Excuse me for interrupting your evening of television viewing and daring to change the channel to watch England v Uraguay. I was the only one in the lounge and clearly she wanted a quiet evening on her own.

Bar tenders downstairs - full of testosterone and arrogance. No smile or welcome, more interested in eyeing up the smartly dressed female clientele

Restaurant waiter - sorry for being a little late in dining. I guess you wanted an early night?

On the plus side the receptionist who checked me in (Spanish girl) and the trainee working with her were very efficient and pleasant as was the waitress in the restaurant who seated me, and the girl running the coffee bar the next morning.

Won't be back in a hurry - shame really as it is a very nice facility

The staff and concierge were very nice and helpful. Room was clean. Pillows excellent. The hotel is located right across the street from the Tube so it was very easy to get around. We were also able to walk many sites such as St. Paul's Cathedral and Big Ben.

I have stayed here at least 10 times, and I love it every time. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed (if you are looking for a more "American" and less "European" type hotel, then this is it). The staff is always courteous and professional...the concierges are extremely helpful. There are quite a few attractions within easy walking distance...St. Paul's Cathedral, the Millennium Bridge, and the labrynthine streets of the City. For destinations further afield, the Blackfriars Tube station (Circle and District Lines) is just across the street. If you're looking for a quiet place to stay, this hotel is ideal on the weekends as all of the employees of the City disappear (but many of the surrounding restaurants and businesses close as well).

Room Tip: Avoid the small number of rooms which have no exterior window (they face inward).

I stayed here with part of a tour group for 4 nights. The location of the hotel can't be beat with everything in easy walking distace and Blackfriars tube station directly across the street. The room was beautiful and concierge very helpful. My parents had a room right next to the elevators and worried about the nise but they said they heard nothing. Needless to say the rooms were very quiet , a definte plus in my mind. I would definetly stay here again.

Stayed while on business, the hotel is what you expect from a city centre one, very central to the city, clean good staff but at £250 b & b a night not good value although wished maybe I tried the P Inn round the corner

Room Tip: I would speak to reception as most rooms overlook other buildings
