“Great hotel, top rate customer service”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Another faultless stay at Crowne plaza the city, I love it that the visits are stress free and no hassle. I was helped out of the taxi, bag carried and guided to very welcoming check in, thank you Patricia. As a woman travelling alone I do worry but service here is consistently excellent and the best thing is they recognise and reward their IHG member guests. As royal ambassadors had a nice upgrade thank you and alarm call came in the morning on time so nothing to do but relax. Beds are so comfortable and lovely to have a bath. Great nights sleep without any noise.
Excellent value and service with great location. Thanks to the pleasant and helpful staff, a credit to the IHG chain and hotel management. I am really looking forward to the rooftop terrace when it is done!

I have stayed at this hotel a week ago for 3 nights...very well located with the tube station across the street...I had a nice, spacious and clean room. I really enjoyed the breakfast and especially the welcome and the service provided by Vincenzo the breakfast manager. The only bad thing: lift is too slow. I will definitely return here

I have stayed in August 2014 for three nights in the Crown Plaza The City. Overall - given the price of 300 GBP++ this hotel was really not worth the money.

SERVICE LEVEL/STAFF: The service is the main reason that I rates this hotel low. It started at the check-in, when the receptinist announced to us, that we had been upgraded to an Executive CLub room - but actually that was the room I had booked in the first place! The Executive lounge was among the poorest I have experiences in any 5-STar hotel. The evening snacks (some Calamare and buscuits) were gone long before the closure of the Happy Hour, the place was very cramped - often there was not a single person from the staff around. At breakfast time, the lounge was completely overcrowded, so we decided to have BF downstairs in the general breakfast room. There we had to pay an extra 5 GBP per person, as the "choices are more" as the servant explained to us.
Finally, when I was asking for a parking space for my car, the answers were ranging from shrugging shoulders to an advise to park the car maybe somewhere in a publiccar park far away. Only the thirs person I asked could at least tell me where to drive to and how much it would cost (btw - 35 GBP per day!).

ROOMS: The rooms are meeting the expectations, everything is there what you can expect from a five start hotel. One thing that irritated me, that there wa sonly one single electrical plug point. So - we kept charging devices in shifts... (at leats for iPhone was a in-built charge rin the desk).

OVERALL PROPERTY: There is some major renovation ongoing. One out of three elevators is out of order (the entry coverd with raw plywood), which makes for endless waiting times i the higher floors. As there is no staircase (with teh exception of teh emrgency exit, that ends outside of the building) you spend every morning 10-15 minutes waiting for an elevator. Also - on some of the floors there is construction work, which is hardly carmouflaged.

LOCATION: The location is excellent. No doubt, right at Blackfriars Bridge - walking distance to Westminster, the Tate across the river - whole of London in Walking Distance. The subway staion is across the street.

VERDICT: The hotel failed to impress me. Although perfectly located, the premium prices do raise expectations to a different level. The whole ambience is outdated and the service level is unpredictable. The so called executive lounge is absolutely sub-standard. A few staff members were excellent, others lagging clearly behind.

Room Tip: The Eastsid eof the hotel has its windows towards the main road. You may want to avoid that if your...

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are delighted that you found our location convenient and the room had met your expectations.

Your feedback regarding our Executive Club Lounge and other aspects of your stay is appreciated. We are currently investigating further. With regards to the renovations - we do have an new rooftop restaurant and bar which will be launching early 2015. The essential works being carried to create this exciting venue does include updating the lifts to increase the speed and efficiency. We thank you for your patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused during your stay.

It would an absolute pleasure to welcome you back in the near future. Best wishes and hope to see you again soon.

This Hotel is in a great position if you are wanting to see around the city and the south-bank area of London as everything is in easy walking distance. As you walk in to the lobby the ambiance is good, the check in is fast and i was greeted and recognized as a Loyalty Club member. The rooms are good clean and comfortable and also very quiet considering the Hotel is in the city. The Italian Restaurant is very good with good food and great wines. My wife and i have stayed here before quite recently but i thought i had to give this Hotel another review as it was as good as before, and i have no doubt we will stay here again.

Although quite local, we went as a family for my son's 13th birthday. At reception the kids were given a treat and they put some sweets in the rooms for my son. Lovely room, great bathroom and with such close access to the underground it is a decent tourist hotel!

One of the better Crowne Plaza establishments. Very spacious and well laid out. Staff very helpful and good value for bearing in mind that it is located in the heart of the City District right opposite Blackfriars Station. Staff are really helpful and overall an enjoyable stay.

We stayed at this hotel when we went to London for a wedding. I booked well in advance and got a great price for room only. The hotel is good with well equipped, spacious rooms and efficient, friendly staff. However, as the weather was very wet we decided to have breakfast before we left. This was a mistake as it was really expensive and nothing special. It wouldn't stop us returning though, we will just stick to room only next time!
